49MPG and over 800 miles on single tank
« on: May 17, 2009, 07:14:08 PM »

Another cool fact goes to BMW 335d
Car was driven from Chicago to NY on one tank of gas and averaged slighly over 49mpg

I think it just great for family sport car that traps 1/4 @ 100+mph to get better fuel economy than little prius hybird

I clicked on the link.  3825Lb?  For a car of that size, that's a lot (500Lb more than the 330i?).  It's like carrying 10 full size spare tires on top of the hood (45Lb each) of the gas version.  It must handle like a Safeway cart, LOL.

Did they get 50/50 weight distribution (Edit: 250Lb front, requiring 250Lb dead weight/moved weight in the back), or BMW now considers that irrelevant?  I'm curious.

Other than that very impressive.  Even if I would never get those numbers in the real world, I would get better numbers than the competition of course.

RH
Read some review on 335d
It has great balance (BMW-like), performed very well on skippad, handling and braking tests
It's very much like 335i, but yea, a bit heavier
Isnt G37 about the same weight?

BTW, it has 51/49 weight distrebution
Not bad

The G 37 is like 3700 Lb (C&D) series is more like the 5 series than the 3 series, in every dimension is bigger, specially wider.

The 3 series is more of the size of a Nissan Versa, really.  (edit for clarity) This diesel is a regular 3 series with 10 spares over the hood, how people say they handle the same is a mistery to me.  Think about it, and explain it if you can.  400-500Lb extra weight in the front end is a lot of weight, how can it HANDLE the same?   I know it has lots of torque and it must be fun and all, but I hope you got my point.  It should be relevant.  Something does not add up.

Maybe it's because journos love BMWs?   Grin

It does not make economic sense of course (which luxury/performance car does?), if you want to save fuel to save money, you can buy a Prius or a Versa.  How much more should you drive this car to save 30K of fuel savings?  LOL  If you want to save fuel to brag about how much FUEL this car saves, then that's the right car for you, I'd say.   Cool

^ ..... which is why I'd be much more interested in a 5 series diesel than a 3 series!

RH
How did you come up with 500lb diff?
It's a bit less than 300
Dimmentions are not that different either
Yes, G is a little bigger, but still same class, simillar space
335 has more space than IS-F, so what?
Btw, ppl with Xi models have to deal with extra wieght
But despite additional 200lb 335xi is still pretty good car
Unfortunately it seats a bit higher on stock suspension

For the economic part:
I wouldn't want to commute on anything but my bimmer
I wouldn't wanna buy another car just for that
I just want nice sporty car that has nice appearence and luxury features
Which is faster than most cars on the road and as an additional bonus saves me good chunk of money per year
It especially makes sense to people with longer commutes

I guess some people just don't get diesels
Bad reputation or what

i think the G is actually as close to the size of the 5 as it is the 3.  So it kinda splits the difference.  The major difference is its cheaper than the 3, so that makes it worlds cheaper than the 5.
