Just Released M39!!!! (BMW M6 Review)
«

Wow, I just found out what happens when your wife takes your M45. . . You lose an M39. . .
and end up with. . .
M6! and you lose your roof. Heh. OK, so I finally made up my mind what to drive for the next 20 months and got an M6 Convertible. It's a hell of a car and is going to take a LOT LOT LOT of getting used to. Complicated as hell and about as intuitive as uh speaking Swahili. Right now I'm going to say this car SUCKS but it's just going to take me a long time to figure out how all this crap works (honestly, working Windows Vista is easier). I still detest this SMG thing but I'm hoping to get better at it. I will say when you press the "M" button and 520 horsepower kicks in it's well . . . let's just say it's very impressive. But it's not something you just get into and drive that's for sure. I seriously still can't figure out how to get the nav screen correct. I'll post pix and a review later. Off to go drive a bit
P.S. If you are wondering why I got it despite not liking it that much was it was dirt cheap. Brand new with $3k down and 1080 a month for 24 months. For a $118k MSRP car? Yeah, I can't resist that. Jumped right in.

Nice.
Why is the lease so low? Is it based on the high residual for the car?

Oh it has to do with a lot of things. The car has 231 miles on it and was driven by the Executive VP when he was here at the auto show. The residual was an astounding 75% and they gave me all kinds of breaks. Then I beat em up some more (this took me 4.5 hours if you can believe it). The car also had to have the driver door repainted because there was a 4 inch long scratch on it (oh boo hoo, saved me a crap ton of money). When you worked out all the numbers, the thing actually came out to like $540 a month but I think the dealer realized the price was wrong so more adjustments were made. This wasn't supposed to get sold to the public and I found out about it through a dealer friend of mine. Rather than ship it back to Germany which is what was supposed to happen, I managed to buy it.

Here’s the review of the M6 Convertible:
OK, so to start I am writing this review literally from inside the M6. I’m trying to learn this crazy car on the fly (no I’m not actually moving, sheesh!). This will be a LONG review because I’m actually using this car as a daily driver so I’ll have more to say.
Looks: Kind of on the fence on this one. It kind of reminds me of when the new Lexus SC430 came out. I had one of the first ones and loved that it looked different from the plain old cars that were out at the time. Now though, cars all have a different look and lots of great shapes. So, this “off” design isn’t that avant garde. In the pictures I see of it, I would say, bleah, ugly but much like the Cayenne when it came out, in person it is actually quite stunning. The nose is kind of shark like and pointed. Juts out like a sharp chin and the tip of the front is nice with a rakish view. The car is a very rounded car. I would say it is not aggressive rounded like a Ferrari or angular rounded like a Caddy or Lamborghini. It’s more svelte rounded. The back trunk still looks stupid in my opinion. Looks like a coffin or something and maybe it’s added on after the rest of the car was done. “Oh we forgot the trunk, ach, just draw a square back there we will figure it out later”. Other than the trunk, the lower half of the car back looks wicked. I like the side mirrors black on the bottom. The wheels are cool, the color is cool (M6/5 only!) the Silverstone interior is also surprisingly nice. Merino leather? OK I admit it’s pretty nice. The rest of the interior is also quite comfy with shaped everything from doorhandles to cup holder. The wood is NOT as nice as in the Lexus LS. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad but Lexus’s is by Yamaha and is nicer. The carbon fiber? Well, I’d rather it but I didn’t get to choose on this one, heh.
More Interior: Seats, ok now I’ve been in a LOT of sports seats and luxury seats and without question these are the best seats I have EVER sat in. Damn, these are nice. The part under the thighs extends for more comfort and it is not smooshy but firm yet forgiving. Meanwhile the lateral support? It actually mechanically “hugs” you. There are buttons on the adjustments that hug the wings into you and yes they release when you turn off the engine. The top half of the seat actually bends forward much like the Steelcase Leap office chair. Unbelievable seats and I’m told that this seat is actually only available on the M5 and I got it special due to this being a unique specially built car. Buttons: Germans are retards here (no offense to you Germans). WTF, I can’t figure out what half these things do and I have more degrees than you can shake a stick at. For example, next to the shifter is “Power” “DSC Off” “EDC” and a button that looks like a volume control. I had to look it up! The Power button engages all kinds of different profiles for how much engine you want. Anywhere between 400 to 510 (is it 510? I know it’s over 500) horsepower and all kinds of different torque. It also adjusts the suspension to 30 different levels (why I need that many I have no idea) and adjusts shocks and all kinds of crap. Uh, staying away from that button for now. DSC Off? Uh, no idea. But it has lights on it too so I’m guessing it has differing types of Stability control (lol I really have no idea, pathetic), the EDC button? HAHAHA Still no idea but it also has two lights on it so same situation. The Volume thing? It says here it’s a power button that changes engine settings which leaves me with the question. . . “but then what the hell is the Power button for? And what about this “M” button? ARGHH!” There is a “Rest” button that the dealer says blows out the hot air or in the cool air while you are out of the car. Uh no use for that. Also the car can be set like Outlook and it will blow out or in air at certain times of the day. Uh no use for that. The DVD Navigation disc is right below the CD player. . . why? I have no idea, not like anyone would be swapping that in and out. The buttons on the steering wheel, OK voice command I get although there are no instructions as to what I can actually say (taking lessons from Infiniti I see). The Phone button I get although when my wife called me it did nothing but hung up on her and she actually got pissed at me (like that’s my fault!). The volume I get. The Up Down I assume are connected to stuff to do in the Nav/Idrive screen. Then there’s this button that looks like a compass diamond on the steering wheel. NO idea what that does. (See what I mean by this being the MOST un intuitive car ever?!?!) The “M” Button? Oh I found out what that did. Press that and VWWWWOOOSSHH. Your engine goes into Mr. Hyde form with full Horsepower and you take off as fast as my Ferrari. Holy crap, for the most part unless you going to go a bit aggressive and have fun, avoid that button. . . . well, heh, ok I may have pressed it a few times for kicks but I forbid the wife from pressing it. Paddle shifter is nice but I prefer paddles to be on the steering column and not the wheel. I also like spring loaded Paddles. These are more notchy. The stalks. . . . (Ok side note, some women in sun dresses just said high to me while sitting in the car, heh ok I’m liking this car more just now). . oh stalks. Uh these are also retarded. Three of them and NONE are well marked. It has auto lights and rain sensors and laser guided cruise control but there are buttons here like “check” and “bc” on them that I have no idea what it does. One of them controls automatic highbeams that turn on and off when other cars come. The Heads Up display is wwwaaayyyyyy better than the Corvette’s. The Corvette had this silly looking box outline reflection in the windshield. The M6 has the image of the tachometer and the speed and gear floating in space like it should have. Glove compartment is nice and roomy. The center storage is nice because it moves up and down too (which I discovered after thinking it was dumb for not being flush down, duh you can adjust it, lol). I Drive. . . . uhm. . . uh. .. . OK this thing sucks big time. That will NOT change as long as I own this thing. Who invented this F’ing thing??!!? WTF, do I twist it? Push it up? Click it? Better yet, how do I rip it out and throw it out the window? This is plain old stupid and overly complex. I’m trying to drive here, I don’t need to be staring at the monitor and clicking all over the damn place. This alone takes this car down about two notches. I bet a TON of cool techno stuff in this car never gets used because people don’t know how to get to it on this idiotic system.
Fit: Pretty good but believe it or not, it’s not fantastic. Some pieces don’t seem to be perfectly fitted and the gaps between the panels are bigger than they should be for a $120k car. The Lambo had better fit but it’s way better than a Ferrari. No creaks or anything on the interior. Interior fit and finish is superb. The top goes up pretty slowly in my opinion but the glass rear window air buffer is fantastic and the top is very snug.
Engine. EEK, holy moses this thing is fast. It also is a lot like the IS-F in that it can be driven very very tamely all around town as a daily driver. Then if you get cranky and drop the hammer or god forbid hit the M button (or I assume one of these power buttons) it goes off like a roman candle. Exhaust makes a very pleasing growl and it’s clearly a high performance car the second you hear it. Quad chrome tips in the back make the thing roar (and I gotta tell ya, they are gorgeous)
Handling: NOT as crisp as the M45. It takes a longer throw of the wheel to go in an exact direction. The M45 is similar to my Ferrari’s but this is definitely more open. Not terrible but not as good as the Infiniti. The turning radius is decent but not as good as my old CLK (which was the best on turning radius). Steering is nice and light though and you can throw this thing into a turn very hard if you want. It seems though that if you punched it in a hard turn you could spin out unlike the Gallardo which felt better. (2 hours later) OK, I’m adjusting my original thought here on the steering. When you go into Godzilla (M) mode the steering actually tightens somehow. Now when you twitch the wheel the car does the same. I don’t know how that is possible but I’m sure you guys do. Honestly? In M mode this thing is a flat out exotic.
OK, so those are my first impressions of my new M6. It’s dark out now but I’ll get shots of it tomorrow. In fact, you guys are gonna LOVE my pix tomm. I’ve got the new F430 Spyder (YAY!) coming in the morning and you can see all my toys in the pictures I’ll be taking. But mainly this will still be an “M6” thread so I’ll post those front and center. Cheers guys!

This is signature material!!! I just loved to hear that of course!
Keep them coming!
P.S. if you need help moving the cars around to take the pics, I'll be glad to help!

It's called Silverstone Metallic exterior. It's basically metalic silver. Interior is Silverstone as well. I'll have pix up later I promise.

OK Don't laugh this is a serious question. Uhm. How do you park an M6? Am I supposed to leave it in drive and just shut off the engine? Do I have to pull up parking brake then? (not SHOULD I. do I HAVE to, in other words is it like putting it in Park on a regular car) This thing is crazy.

Yeah, ask the sales guy, or even search bimmer forums....
is there a button on top to press for park? On my wifes merc on the stock you pull down to engage D, push up to engage reverse and press the side button in to engage Park....
I don't remember there being a button on the SMG shifter though....
