2010 Cadillac SRX

This was the first Caddy I drove today. This is a heck of a nice car. It goes to show I always said it pays to get a car right after it gets redone because you get the latest and greatest. I can't believe this car fits in my garage but it's actually 1 inch SHORTER then the M6. And it's got two full size rows and a cargo area. Unbelievable. OK to start with the looks. I think it's very cool. Big blocky but not big and stupid like say an Escalade. It looks like a tank but it is actually small. Once again you have the "options" problem. I noticed for example the SRX next to the tricked out one I was looking at had different headlights and diffrent body pieces on it. (GM, you will never learn)
Interior: Wow this is pretty nice. I was in the super nice version and it was quite fancy. Leather everywhere with nice lines and a perfect center stack. The middle of the speedometer had a round LCD screen displaying lots of cool things. The stereo sounded very good (better than our Infiniti M's) and the nav was gorgeous. Once again, it popped up and down which is nice. The seats were heated and cooled. The sunroof was once again this HUGE thing that took up the whole car. The starting button was an actual button not an ignition with no key in it. It felt great too with seats that were soft but not mushy. So off we go to the test drive:
Engine: Too damn small. I didn't drive the 300hp version (do they make one?) but instead took out a direct inject v6. It felt like it was working to move the car. Acceleration was decent but it took some time and the engine definately felt labored. The steering itself is super tight. ZERO dead zone on the steer. You twitch it and it twitches too. That's good and bad though. Turning radius was real nice.
There was one thing that was a potential deal breaker on the SRX though. The brakes. Not the brake performance which was decent, not spectacular. But the damn pedal. The top of the brake pedal is almost TWO inches higher than the top of the accelerator. Which means you have to pick your foot off the accelerator to move it to the brake. Not just slide it over but like pick your whole foot up or pivot rather uncomfortably to the brake. I've never seen that before. When I complained the sales guy showed me this switch that moved the pedal. "Oh" I thought, "OK someone must have just put it at max distance or something" so I moved it all the way the other way. . . except it moves BOTH pedals so you have the same damn problem. I mean I could actually (and yes I did it) slip my foot off the accelerator and put it BEHIND the brake pedal. (size 9 shoe by the way) That's going to severely handicap your reaction time on that brake and is just plain old annoying. Maybe you can have that adjusted somehow. I don't know.
Overall: I liked this car actually. Was very comfy and I could see me taking it up to go skiing with my boys. There were very nice dvd screens built into the seats that popped up like a airplane tray. The ride could be a little cushier but I actually like the road feel so that was fine. Biggest issue? That brake pedal. No way would I buy it based solely on that. If I can have that adjusted, this car is in the running.

I've seen these on the road before; was pretty underwhelmed by the in-person looks. Then i read the reviews about the pathetic power... and that was pretty much it

Ah, nice to hear it wasn't just me that was underwhelmed by the power here. I mean I know it's a SUV and all but the engine really felt like it was struggling. I don't think this is going to be the car for me. Out of curiosity, how much higher (if at all) is your guys brake pedal then the gas? I refuse to believe that's normal.
