a Hyundai? I think hell froze over
« on: August 29, 2009, 11:24:41 PM »

So I'm back from my month vacation and I have to mention one thing on this site.  I saw parked near my beach house a red Hyundai Genesis Coupe.  I've seen pictures of this thing and kind of snickered at it but live?  Jeez that's not a bad looking car.  In fact I'd say it's actually pretty damn good looking.  Has anyone driven this thing?  Looks kind of like an Infiniti G37 but with a little more swoop.

Welcome back!

It's a great looking car from the outside. I think the interior is a little less desirable. I haven't driven one.

It definitely has the "bang for your buck" factor working for it, though...

Thanks.  Yeah I might go test drive one this week.  Seems way under powered but "shrug" you never know.  I literally have NO idea where to find a Hyundai dealer and my wife would give me neverending crap for buying one but seriously, the one I saw was a cool looking car.

I sat in one at the local autoshow last spring.  For a price comparison in Canada the Genesis Coupe is about 30,000 Cdn whereas the new 370Z is about 40,000.  It's hard to put your finger on the reasons but the Z "felt" like it should be 10,000 more than the Genesis.  If I were in the market for this type of vehicle and had the cash or ability to finance 10K more I would get the Z.

That 10k is due to refinement.  The Genesis is in its first model year, where as Nissan has had a few years to dial everything in.  Not to mention an Infiniti parts bin to pick through...

I have to say that I liked the feel of the Z a lot.  My wife thought I looked kind of sleezy in it though.  I think it would make a great midlife crisis car.
