And the M6 is gooonnnneee
« on: April 16, 2010, 11:07:53 PM »

OK, I have to tell this story.  I brought the M6 in to the detailer to do a detailing.  Was actually a pretty cheap job at only $75 and they said it was the most basic of cleanings.  WOW did they do an incredible job.  I normally think nobody does better than I do by myself with a full Zaino treatment.  Well I am clearly wrong.  Car looked brand new.  Frankly, the car looked better than when I first got it.  Sheesh, I was amazed.  Anyways, I was bringing it back to the storage garage when the windows went down without me touching the buttons.  WTF!  I pull over and then the "Convertible Top Failure" light goes on. . . again (it's broken twice already).  OK, now I'm F'in pissed.  I hate this car.  I decided to just keep driving to the dealer which was only 4 blocks away.  One block before I get there?  The light mysteriously goes off and I can now close the windows.  I don't dare try taking the top down.  Instead I vow to leave the car there.  The lease returns guy is busy so I make like I'm buying a new 7 series (yeah riiiight).  It's actually a hell of a nice car but there is no way I will ever get sucked into that again.  I "decide" on a new car and the sales guy gets the lease return guy to check the car.  Well despite 3 of the 4 wheels having curb rash he comes in and says "Man, that's a perfect car.  No problems" and signs off on it.  Then he fills out the paperwork and I'm done.  NO charges.  Woo freaking Hoo!  I was expecting 150 minimum per wheel and maybe more since they are uber expensive wheels.  Anyways, lesson learned.  ALWAYS have your car detailed right before you bring it back.  I'll miss the engine in the M6   but there's precious little else that I'll miss. (OK the way it hunkered down around turns too)

I wouldnt defend reliability of BMW
It's definetelly not its strongest point
I'm happy with my 335i, so as my friend
I guess we're lucky

I do, however want to buy extended waranty (6yrs/100k) to make sure i'm not paying big $$ when/if something happens
I would never own bimmer past warranty

I love the car, so i wanna keep it for a few more years

And I truly believe that the 335i is one of the best cars on the planet right now.  Car is superb and I'll fully admit better than the G37s.  I hear it runs a bit hot but really that would be only under spirited driving.  In it's class, however, I can think of no better car.  The manual in particular is stunningly good.  And before you say it, because there are so many of them in my neighborhood and my buddy drives one and I can't stand to think of driving the same car and I'm annoyed enough by the M6 that I couldn't do that to myself again brandwise. I kind of like to have something different on the pavement then what everyone else has.

Sadly, that is one of the biggest things keeping me from the 3 series.. it that EVERYONE has one. Some looking better than others, though (Andrey Smiley )

Thank you guys for kind word towards my ride
I trully love it
I gotta agree with both of you though, there are some many 3-series around here, including 335s
It's the best selling BMW and it's been for sale for a few years now, so if you do the math, you'll get a lot of these on the road
I did some small cosmetic changes just to be different from everyone else
I guess it worked
Now i get mistaken for M3 though

"Now I get mistaken for M3"
Which leads to the other problem "M3, the Ultimate Poseur Machine".  It's a lot like 911's.  "Hey, nice M3, what's the HP on that thing? Uh I don't know.  Yeah? How's it handle? Oh Great.  Got that four wheel steering huh? Uh, yeah yeah it does!  Ever been on a track? Uh, No.  You know how to open the hood? Uh, no."
Real funny thing is it's not just a rumor, it's actually backed up by the insurance industry and stats that put Porsche on the top of the most expensive car to insure category.  (M3 is up there too)  Essentially, you have cars with too much power in the hands of people that have no idea what they are doing but just want to pose with it.  For goodness sake, if you don't know what you are doing, buy a luxury car!

You think its bad now?  Just wait until people start getting their hands on 996s.  I have heard that 996TTs are going at auction for low 30s and a few can be had in the 20k range.  That plus a 10-20k turbo kit will put that car in the 500+Whp range.  IE will be spinning all four wheels into second gear.  THAT is scary...

That said... so will the 335... Smiley

So true, Trin
Some people just buy "name" not "fun"
