I hate auto locking doors.  My other car that had them, I always had to put the car in park for people to get out of the car.  Pain in the ass.  I'm a grown man, I can make the choice to lock my own doors thank you very much! Smiley

When it's optional it's fine; most cars make it an option to toggle on/off as chicklet referenced. I agree it's not for everyone, but it is for me. I really don't want to be carjacked. Smiley

Do you live in an area where you're really that afraid of getting car jacked?

Although car-jacking has been made a federal crime, several states also have legislation on the subject. One is Florida, which has a big tourist industry. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, an increasing number of tourists, most of them foreign, were victims of car-jackings in Florida. Because tourists in well-marked rental cars were common car-jacking victims, Florida passed legislation in 1993 (F.S.A. § 320.0601) that outlawed company logos and license plates that made rental and leased cars obvious. Florida's legislators felt that tourists warranted this extra protection for three main reasons. First, tourists are, more often than not, unfamiliar with the area and are more likely to become lost or end up in a high-crime area. Second, tourists often carry more cash than natives, which makes them prime robbery targets. And finally, fewer tourists are likely to return and testify in court about a crime. By granting tourists the right to drive unmarked rental cars, Florida made them less vulnerable to the crime of car-jacking.

Nope.  Neither is a place I routinely visit.  I had no idea where you lived, that's why I asked.

I live 15 minutes from Camden, NJ.  I still don't really fret it.

Honestly, it just makes you feel safer.  The M6 has it as an option.  I had to dig through the I-Drive menus to find it but I found it.  Nice part is that even though the doors are locked you just double click the door handle from the inside and it unlocks.  Now the Lexus version was even better, it was always on so the doors were locked but you could still open the door from the inside with just a regular open the door movement.  I think that solves Helldorado's problem.  Unless you mean you pull up to pick up people and don't want to put it in park or hit the "unlock" button.

My complaint was primarily that if I had a passenger in the car, if I was dropping them off, if they didn't look to unlock the door, I unlocked it, or put the car in park, it wouldn't open.  People always just reach for the handle, then I get asked, "why did you lock the door?"

But I'm decidedly a "wipe my own ass" kind of mentality.  I don't like auto-lights, auto-locks, auto-temp, auto-wipers, auto anything.  I prefer luxury in terms of quality of materials, refinement and performance.  Not a million features that make me a lazier person.  None of those features make people more engaged with the vehicle.  If anything, they seem to make people less connected with it.  Power steering and power windows is all I really need in terms of assistance. Smiley

I don't disagree with the people who prefer it.  If it makes you feel better and gives you peace of mind, that's great.  But I like having control over those kind of items.

Thats the way the Jeep is in the front... but not the back... I think thats a viable solution... except people in the back hate it.

OK, there ya go then.  The Lexus version would work for you.  Just locks the car from entrance from the OUTSIDE but the passengers still get in and out like normal.

Eh... I would prefer the doors just not lock at all. Smiley

Things like this make it tough for me to choose my next car.  I want the build quality and performance of a higher end vehicle.  But I hate the blasé attitude they expect all high end owners to have where everything has to do it for you rather than just letting you drive the car.

I blame iDrive and all subsequent systems.  Angry

EDIT: and yes I'm difficult.  I'm the anti-yuppy yuppy. Smiley

The auto door lock features can be disabled if you don't like them
