Auto sales - Lies, Deception, and more!
« on: June 16, 2008, 11:04:32 PM »

So since I do so much car shopping (I pretty much go looking every weekend these days - and if i'm not looking, i'm emailing/calling) every single dealer within a 300 mile radius has contact information for me and has subscribed me to their "specials" list. Sure, I could unsubscribe.. but it's really fun to watch. Today, I got an email from a Jaguar dealer regarding "special" pricing on an XF-S:

Quote
Hello S

Welcome to the Wilde Jaguar of [blank] monthly newsletter. This is our way of keeping in touch with those customers we haven’t heard from in a while and let them know about some of the great deals we have going on. I hope that your last visit with us was a pleasurable one. We know that you keep a busy schedule and we wanted you to know that [blank] Jaguar of [blank] is always here to meet your vehicle needs.
We currently have some showroom specials just for our internet customers. The prices and information are listed in the table below. These specials are only valid for the next 10 days from the sending of this newsletter and all vehicles are subject to prior sale.

Year   Make   Model   Color   Stock #   Miles   Special Price
2009   Jaguar   XF Supercharged   Pearl Gray/Ivory   One available   New   $64475.00

Note - that "special price" is, in reality (gasps) full MSRP!

Seriously.. are they kidding?

Edmunds TMV (True Market Value) and Costco member pricing are the proper starting points if you want to begin at invoice or below. I believe in making them work it up and not me working it down.

Of course this goes out the window on cars I must have (read M in '05) or are in extreme demand (read GTR now).

I hear you.. same with my M. NO ONE would budge. Sad Fortunately I got $10K off the MSRP for my FX before that, so it kind of made me feel better.

Before that I had a GS300 'sport design' (which was a 'limited edition'); and I wanted it in the limited edition color.. there were something like < 1000 made (in that combo) nation wide, so they werent willing to move on price for that either Smiley

So the prices are already cracking on the XF.  Interesting.  I give it 3 months till discounts start.

I paid almost full price for my G... 2nd week after N.A. release... and then had to wait on it for almost a month  Angry   But I really got a great deal on my trade... over 2k more than it was worth.

The wife is seriously liking the XF (not the supercharged one), and I'm all over it. I haven't been able to get her out of Cadillacs for decades, and we always take a beating on them at trade-in. I think the Jag's a seriously good-looking car, and she does, too.

I'm fairly sure the XF won't have great trade-in either, but a break from The General would be nice IMO.

I'm wondering if Jag is maybe laying on a pretty generous lease residual to get these things on the streets ... anyone seen any figures?

not sure that the Jag will be much better than a Caddy when it comes time to trade in!  But its a good looking car.  Not sure if I'd say better than the CTS or not... but looks aren't everything Wink
