Bumper Guard
« on: December 11, 2009, 11:16:13 AM »

So I noticed in NY a lot of cars with these idiotic looking bumper guards on their cars.  Just in the last week or so, I've started to see a few in SF as well.  What's the deal here?  Is it me or are these just incredibly hideous.  Now I sort of understand people that take them out and put them on when they park somewhere but in NY folks drive around with these . . . things flopping around all the time.  Do any of you guys/gals have one of these?  Is it really needed?

In NYC?  Yes... people don't know how to park, and parking is such a pain that people will do whatever it takes to fit into a spot.  A guy once parked UNDER my 4Runner.  You could see the scrapes back and forth on his hood from my hitch.  What an idiot.  Cars here are basically a 100% loss, or they are treated as such.  Thats why you either see shiny new cars driven by people that can afford $600+ a month parking spots or people that don't care that have older cars that have the bumpers destroyed.  Seriously every bumper you see in the city looks like someone took a sandblaster full of rocks and went to town.

It definetely looks retarded, especially when people actually drive with those
Usually in NYC rear bumpers get scratched more then front
I personally dont own one of these, i usually re-paint rear bumper every 2-3 yrs

Besides, these things wont save you from dummies who scuff corners of the bumpers, and that happens a lot

Actually I was just recalling my father who used to actually push cars in front of him to make more space.  Now, given, this was when they had those big ole detached chrome or steel bumpers not the integrated ones of today, but I wonder if people still do that.  Of course, my dad doesn't do that anymore.

Pictures of said bumper guards? I am not familiar. Smiley PS turbo - too funny with someone parking UNDER the 4runner.

I once watched a woman on worth avenue in palm beach "parallel park", she hit both the car in front and behind her at least 3 times. It took several minutes.

Holy.... crap. That is ghastly. I'd either buy a crappier car, get a lifted truck, or deal with replacing my bumpers every few months Cheesy

Yeah, as I mentioned, they aren't something that is hardly visible.  They are big bulky ugly things that hang on your car.  Thing is, when I was in NYC, they were everywhere.  Out here I've only seen one and snickered when I did.  Personally? I wouldn't be caught dead driving with that thing on.

I want you to take a picture with one on the Audi just for fun.  I'll use it as my avatar here.

Diapers, too funny.  At least that one on sale at Amazon you have the option to put it back inside the trunk, but I guess sooner or later you get too lazy for that.
