how do you register it if you're "using it out of state" Like I go to South Carolina and buy a car I just say yeah I have an N.C. address, and you can ship my plate to my house, but I won't be using it in NC.... for at least 3 months.

when I was in school in Connecticut, I remember that this was done, I forget if NY peeps said they lived in Ct or if the Ct people lived in NY to get the break...
but from what I remember the NY peeps would use a relatives address in Ct for the out of state dealio... I would bet even a PO box would work....

I guess... just seems you'd need to register it somewhere, and wherever you register it... they're going to try and charge you the vehicle tax.

Sorry, lost track of this thread. Uh, I'm not sure to be honest. What I believe you do is NOT register it and have it out of state for 3 months. I'm pretty sure you can BS it too but you probably have to sign a legal claim so it's whatever you are comfortable with. It does work though. Years ago I did it with my 550 Maranello. It was from the east coast and I just claimed it was at my home in NY. Gal rubber stamped it and it went through. She even gave me the correct form without me asking (I actually didn't know about this loophole when I was at the DMV) Saved me an ungodly amount of money.
