Challenger RT, Camaro SS and Mustang GT.

Wonder why they didn't do the Challenger SRT8?

Something I just noticed while digging around - the Camaro SS actually recommends premium unleaded fuel (same for the Challenger SRT-8)... interesting.

I'm a little curious as to how they're making all these cars so heavy. I realize my car is 'small', but even given that Lexus are trying to shed some weight from the next revision. Here's Camaro - Challenger - IS-F - Mustang specs (i realize the -F is the odd one out, but it puts out similar (better) numbers than the other cars and no significant weight advantage. The mustang is actually a whopping ~400lbs less than my car, which is the 2nd lightest in the group. So, what gives, are they filling these cars with bricks?

I don't know, but I think that the above American cars generally do not "pack" the engine right.  The typical Japanese car is generally  tighter everywhere.

Another thing, I've heard somewhere that cars with BUS are like 50Lbs or more lighter than those without it, because you save on the wiring.  Wiring harness can be super heavy, I've seen some video about BMW's robot that helps the installer to manage and install and twist the single big wiring harness behind the dash.  If it's in a computer network, you only need two wires for all the steering wheel buttons (no matter how complex), but if not, yo'll need at least one for each button, and so on and so forth.

The Challenger is 10in longer than the Mustang, 2" wider, that not just mirrors and bumpers...a lot of metal goes in there to fill that space.

EDIT: That's just one thing I noticed, I'm not claiming that what I said above accounts for even 50% of the difference, though.  I would like to know what does.

The M3 coupe is equally " heavy" at 3704Lbs.  The sedan must be heavier still, and it's the one that should be compared to the IS-F.

I will give the V6 model credit.  Its a really nice V6 they put in there at a great price.  It makes me glad I didn't get the G37 too.  I'd be beyond pissed to have my $40k "sport" coupe have a $23k base Camaro with steelies keeping pace and nipping at its heels.  Plus you can factor in the Hyundai Genesis coupe which slots right in the middle and would be on par with the Camaro.  If the Camaro were about 300 lbs lighter (at least) and differently styled I would've considered it.  They just lost me at hello with that body (and interior).

I had a feeling that the G coupes ballooning weight in the restyle would come back to bite it in the ever burgeoning ass over time.

So Joe, do you actually plan on getting one?  Or are you just riding the mullet wagon? Tongue

I dunno, I have not seen one in person or sat or driven one.  I just like what
I've seen so far from pics and vids.  If I like it, I would like to have one, but
I'm not sure what I can buy next until I get my job back.   Undecided

its not terrible, and i really think they could come out with some variants (like mustang does with bullitt and mach etc) that might make it more attractive.  That will probably keep sales flowing.

M3 Sedan is not heavier, well, just 20Lb
