Lexus GS? Hmmm maybe no
«

So I was up in Marin and I stopped by the Lexus dealership today. I have had the SC430 the LS430 the RX400h in the past and I liked them. Since I've vowed to drive the R8 more often I figured I'd get a nice cushy car to replace the M6 when I have to give it back in March. Unfortunately the LS is too long to fit in my garage at home since my wife has a Highlander in there now. It can't be anymore than 190 inches (M6 is 191.
. Turns out the GS is perfect length. Unfortunately it also turns out I didn't like the car. Keep in mind most of this is probably because I just grew used to sports cars with the M6 and GT and such. First off the seats, that's actually too soft. It's like sitting on an extremely soft mattress. The controls were fine but since when does Lexus make all of the nice stuff "options"? My old SC had like two available options. Then there was the drive. Handling was fine although it rolled more than I like. The engine was actually quite decent considering it was a v6 but had 305 HP 285 Torque. The steering was a bit mushy but nice response. The brakes? Horrible. I actually told the guy "hang on" and hit the brakes at one point and they were very tough to press and the stopping power? Very mushy and the ABS or maybe stability control, something, actually lit for a 1/4 sec. They truly sucked. And I mean deal killer sucked. Meanwhile, there was no real "wow" thing going on here. It was all just. . . best way to describe it is "ok" or "decent". Anyways, I just crossed it off the list. Maybe I'll get an IS350 or 250 instead. Honestly, I thought the M45 was better than this thing. (before you ask it's 194inches so it's a no go) I know I don't want another BMW. I just want a comfy car I can very casually drive that has back seats for the kids and that my wife can drive too. Any suggestions folks? Thus far I've come up with 3 series (no), IS (maybe, hard to find with Mark Levinson), GS (No now), G Series (maybe), S4 (reluctant since I have an Audi already), TL (I'd literally laugh at myself), M3 (god not again), Genesis Coupe (lol, my dad would laugh), A3 (meh),

I think I've just found your garage on the web:
Seems to me that your garage is your main problem. Seriously, you should perhaps stack the longer cars on top of the Highlander, like this?
Other than that, a G37 should be ideal for what you want, IMHO.

Ha, no I don't think that's an option. Would be cool though. I just looked at the G37 online. I kind of feel like "been there done that" because it seems like. . . well a coupe version of the m45. I'm leaning toward the IS but then again I was leaning toward the GS before I drove it.

M5 is too long and I wouldn't put myself through that again. S4 maybe but I have an R8 and that seems a tad overkill. E class is too big. C class reminds me of a taxi in Europe. I think I might just go with a real short term lease via swapalease.com and pick up a IS or G37s for a year. Unless you guys come up with a better idea.

I was going to say a M56 but its too big.
How about a Mini Clubman S automatic...lol. You can fit the kiddies in the back and no problems with fitting in the garage.
I would not consider a IS250 (too slow). IS350 is slower than an 07-08 G35 Sedan. G37 sedan will walk it. How about a G37 sedan? The new updates on the sedan should be out when you give the M6 back.

Might as well get M3 or 335i instead
3-series is pretty solid
Also C63 looks much better than regular C class, not to mention nice power and improved handling
IS is boring and G37 while less boring than IS, still kind of underpowered for your liking
Chicklet, G37 will not walk IS350

Before I bought my M, I had thought I wanted a GS. Took the GS out for a spin after I took the M out and liked the M much better.
I have to agree with you on the seats, too cushy and no bolster what so ever. It seemed to have a little more pick up, but I really dug the interior of the M much better. Styling, both my wife and daughter hated the look of the GS, even though I liked the GS.. They both thought it looked like an giant egg.
Good luck on your search. Still waiting for the ride in R8

Anytime Tim. So I'm bound to change my mind about 100x more times but I think I got it. Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Sure, it's a Hyundai and my dad would laugh at me (I insulted him once by saying I'd never get one and we are Korean) but the one I saw on the East coast was gorgeous. Heck, that's how I came to the M45. Now here's the thing. I could do M3 or an S4 or RS4 or something but you see them EVERYWHERE in San Fran. And when I say everywhere boy do I mean it. On my two block walk (down Union st) to get an afternoon coffee, 6 A4/S4, 2 M3's, 4 335i, 3A6s, 2 IS (350 and a 250). You know how much that makes my teeth itch. Hell, I sold my SC430 after I saw the 5th one other than mine in SF. That's pretty much the biggest reason I sold the M45 too. But the Genesis Coupe? I've seen none. zero. zilch. It'll be at least a few years of "hmmm that's an interesting car". It's pretty comfy and it's not like I drive a lot. And it even has back seats for the kids and my wife could drive it as long as I didn't get it in some weird color. Thoughts?

I've seen the Genesis coupe around (a few of them). It is a good looking car, and a good $/value ratio. You do lose out on service, though.
I see you drove the GS350, why not a 460 or 450H?
Although - at the end of the day, I can say the brakes were a huge disappointment on the GS i recently drove. I found them to be overly touchy, completely unpredictable, and flat out unpleasant. This seems different than your experience, though (lack of responsiveness). Are you sure the brakes had been properly bedded, etc? Perhaps that particular car had been sitting for a while...
The car was known for interior quality issues for the first few runs of this model year, but I would assume those have been addressed by now (but not sure).
Regarding the IS - not sure what you mean by hard to find with the ML system? They are mostly produced with it, I think. Also - the IS really doesn't have a functional back-seat unless your kids are very young/short.
If you were going to pick up an IS 350, i'd recommend biting the bullet and going for the -F.
And i know we've had this discussion before, but what about a CTS? (not necessarily a -V).... again, very good bang for the buck. Gotta get past the "old people car" thing, though.. which I think cadillac has effectively done.
PS - For what it's worth, the M is better than the GS. That's why I got the M.

I don't really see many with the ML system in it. Wow I don't know how we came to such differing opinions on the brakes though. Yeah I hit these things and they were like rocks first of all then they just didn't stop the car smoothly. When that light flickered I thought in horror for a sec "Oh shite I'm going to hit that car" in front of me. Oh, the 460 wasn't available and I don't do hybrids remember
I would totally do th cts except. . . 191.6 length. M6 is 191.8. I kind of wanted it EASIER to park in my garage. Still, I guess I could live with it. Thanks OZ. I'm looking at the CTS now.

Chicklet, G37 will not walk IS350
I shouldn't have said "walk" but a G37 is faster than an IS350...both automatics...G37 won.

G37 is definitely the more athletic of the two. I of course haven't driven them side-by-side but at separate times. The G delivers the power much differently than the L and can scoot pretty quick.

I dont want to start IS350 vs G37 discussion
Maybe you're right, G is faster, based on whatever source you used
I dont remember how magazines tested these two, but i just go by dragtimes to see what cars usually capable of
http://www.dragtimes.com/Infiniti--G37-Drag-Racing.html
http://www.dragtimes.com/Lexus--IS350-Drag-Racing.html
For some reason on average IS350s trap better ET @ higher MPH stock for stock
OZ, Good call on Caddy
Should be a good option as well

I just saw two hot blondes on a red CTS-V as I was dropping my girl at school today. The car really better than I last one I saw parked. Maybe because it moves and sounds so nice...I could really use a convertible CTS with two usable back seats.
