My new Sequoia 2008 Platinum
« on: October 17, 2008, 02:32:58 AM »

Well, this is it.  My new 08 Toyota Sequoia Platinum 5.7 4WD.  Boy, I'm loving it
Some data:

6100Lb weight (ouch)
381 HP
401 Lb/ft
6 speed auto
fully boxed frame
Independent rear suspension
10.000 pounds towing capacity!
13.9-inch vented rotors up front
13.6-inchers in the back - 184ft from 70-0
20 inch wheels

0-60 in 6.2 sec according to MotorTrend (6.6 according to Car&Driver) - Motortrend tested the 4WD version - if 6.2, that's faster than my previous Infiniti M35 at 6.3!
1/4 mile at 15.2sec
12mpg according to mags, 10.7mpg with my right foot.

Very nice! Adjustable suspension and everything. Sad that it's faster than the M35 0-60. Sad

When do the mods begin? Smiley

Thanks.  Toyota calls it Cassis Pearl.  You can have beige, graphite or red brick for the interior.  The others are too bland, and the perforated red brick usually costs extra.  The red brick interior is very rare, there was only one in California, somewhere south of San Jose.  I had to wait a week to get it, and paid no extra!

Yeah, and the ride is great.  On confort mode, it is like a Cherokee Limited I used to have, very Cadillac/big car like.  On sport mode, it's arguably better than the QX 56, the standandard of its class.  My wife prefers it on the intermediate mode when she drives it, I'd rather have the sport mode anyday.  But around SF's cable car tracks and potholes, nothing beats the confort mode.

Yeah, it's getting cheaper and cheaper, which is good news.  I'm already flooring it at every oportunity!!   Grin

My Infiniti M35 used to make 13.9 tops (with me driving it), the FX 35, mostly driven by my wife, does 12.7 (she does like to floor it too) tops.  10.7 is just two mpg worse than the FX, and the car has only 630miles on it.  The engine is a peach, though, and the mags get 12 mpg towing on the highway!

Gas mileage is not a problem for now.  I bought it thiking the gas price would stay on $5.00 or worse - I would use the rebates to pay for the gas over the years, as MikeTX suggested in another thread.  Anything less than 5.00 is more profit for me (given my previous estimates).

Yeah, you can change the character of the shocks, confort, intermediate, sport.  I'm thinking it changes the gas pressure on the shocks, which changes the rebound damping component.

It also changes the ride height 3", lowering for passenger and cargo, or elevating it for rocky terrain riding.  It already have 10" clearance, the tallest of its class (higher than a Cherokee at 9" or a Tahoe at 8").  Only the land cruiser matches its 10" ride height.  It does not make it a rock climbing off roader, of course, because of the long wheelbase, but it must be great on snow or mud.  I've heard wonders of the torque available when you engage the low range.

I'm planning my mods still.  The carputer is surely to come, but I'm planning more.  It's incredible the amount of stuff already available for the Tundra pickup, and most of it would fit on the Sequoia, no problem.

the only problem with this truck in the mud snow is definitely going to be the amount of weight being placed on 4 small tires.   its going to get stuck pretty easily without beefing up those tires some!

True.  I think I'm going to buy a set of snow tires this winter and try it out at Lake Tahoe.  Maybe I can keep the stock 20" in the snow tires and buy some 22" for all season tires, or road tires.  We'll see.  I'm still checking on the tire pressure monitor isse, trying to learn more on how it would work.  I think I would need a new set.

I get a lot of heavy traffic though.  And the highways here are not flat, far from it.  Also, when it opens up, I do drive at 80-90.  Never got 16, unless I did lots of highway miles.  I also never reset my fuel trip meter.  Is that relevant?  I mean, isn't it cheating if you reset it before riding 50 miles on highway driving?  heh.

22??  That's awesome!
