So, what are the buttons buried in the door pocket ... trunk and fuel filler releases?

I think you and I are the only ones who will actually say that the Infiniti door handle unlock system is a little lame. I've had Lexuses and Acuras - and the wife has even had a Caddy - all of which unlock at the touch of your hand (or even before). You shouldn't have to find and push a button the size and shape of a vitamin pill to unlock your car.

Having said that, I've developed a system where my thumb falls pretty naturally on the unlock button. Now, if I were running from a grizzly bear, I might miss it ...

One of the things I recall from our drive of the '08 XF was how shiiity the nav was, and how you had to do most things via the touchscreen (which was not overly responsive to your finger jabs). I don't recall if the XF has voice recognition and if so how good it is. You probably don't use the nav much, but do you figure it's improved any over the '08?

Cool stuff.  Sounds like quite the car.  Whats the flag button for?  and What do you think of that shifter? I dont know that you addressed that in the review.

looking forward to the reviews in the future... was thinking maybe you thought the trans felt so good b/c your last ride was the FX... but Trin stated the trans was all cool in the gang.

I agree with the colored side vent, I would do the same, but that is a personal preference thing.  I was so clueless to the FX that I assumed the FXR was the supercharged version of the FX... little did I know that they now make a FX supercharged and the FXR which is super, super charged...hehehe

you know you can't get enough suspension man... get the sway, won't do a thing to diminish comfort, but will help on the turns.

wheels are pretty nice, staggered from the get go...  could see other nice wheels as well.... Wink

B&W sound...that must be nice....

again looking forward to more reviews as you drive her more!

congrats

Damn.  I go away for 10 days and you've jumped out of the FX owners club.  Congratulations Oz.  Nice photos too.  Did you take all of those yourself?  New camera?

Awesome Oz,
Great review and the car looks great!  I love it here how you guys can still be objective when it comes to cars.  Too many people these days are looking for a religion, not a car-club.  I can't wait for you to slap some slicks on it!  Screw the NAWWWZ.  Sell it for a pulley and Meth then go beat up on some M3 and M5 owners.  Meth is much safer for FI and will do WONDERS in FL.  I'm considering it for the 4Runner since I will be headed back down south in Sept.  I'm with you on the chrome, less is more.  One question, does the car have any type of intercooler?

Thanks! You coming back to FL?

Regarding the intercooler, and supercharger:

Quote
A sixth-generation, twin vortex system (TVS) supercharger is fitted to the XFR’s 510PS engine. It is a compact Roots-type unit, feeding air through twin intercoolers, which in turn are water-cooled by their own discreet cooling circuit. The high helix rotor design improves the supercharger thermodynamic efficiency by 16 percent. It also improves noise quality to the point where the unit is now virtually inaudible (making supercharger whine a thing of the past). The intercoolers reduce the temperature of the pressurised intake-air and so optimise power and efficiency.

The new air intake has been radically redesigned compared to the previous V8. The intake air path is a direct feed to the supercharger inlet from the centrally mounted front throttle body. Air is delivered through twin air boxes, which reduce flow loss and further increase efficiency.

Mechanically, the new supercharger and its intercoolers are efficiently packaged in the ‘V‘ of the engine to deliver a low overall engine height in support of pedestrian safety requirements.

2010 Jaguar XFR- Top Speed

Although this is only addressing the XF-R model, I know that the "regular" supercharged model shares the same benefits/configuration.

Door pocket is just memory seats (SET, 1, 2). Fuel filler is like infiniti with the "press the gas door to open" type lock. The trunk just has a button mounted under the lip (I think the Infiniti is similar to that as well)

The "telematics" system is absolutely awful as I kind of glossed over in my first paragraph review. It shares the exact same issues at the 09. It's slow, unintuitive, etc. It's really the WORST part of the car - and me being a techy, that's hard to get used to.. but amazingly, the rest of the car is that good - so much so that I can overlook the crap navi/audio/etc interface. Smiley

The flag is essentially "performance mode" (i can't remember what it's really called); it runs a different ECU map with more aggressive throttle tip in. I believe it might also make the suspension slightly more firm but am not 100% sure. When you select the flag AND put the shifter into "S" mode the car hangs on to gears like nobody's business.

The knob is a little bizarre but I am pretty used to it already. I do miss having somewhere to rest my hand, though. Also - as I learned today - it really is metal (eg not some plastic thing) and it gets REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY hot. Like, burn your hand hot (when in the sun).

This took several reads. I am guessing you meant "XF" in the second and third references. Wink I do find it interesting that I went FX to XF, though. .. tempted to get a vanity plate - "FX2XF" Smiley

I am unaware of any sway bars for the car currently but we'll see what makes it into the market. There is a surprising amount of stuff already in all honesty though.

I love the stock wheels - and the sound system is just amazing. My best friend was with me tonight and she really could give a crap about cars, audio, etc - but we were listening to something and she just said "the stereo in this car is AMAZING". Again - she could care less about cars - had been in my GS, the LS, the IS-F, the FX, and now the XF - and this is the only one she has actually even taken notice of. She said it's "art work" (compared to my prior vehicles) on the inside regarding the leather covered dash, stitching, etc.

Thanks. I know, it was a quick move. The 2011's were coming in and I had to jump on the 2010 pretty fast. I did indeed take the photos myself - same camera, same technique. Sometimes it goes well, sometimes it doesn't Smiley

So, here's the bad news:

Car goes in for service on Thursday to attempt to resolve the near-stall at idle issue and the rear bumper gap (also the passenger rear window's auto roll up needs to be recalibrated, even though the up-down-up-down game is fun for a minute or two).

The good news:

Even though there is no local dealer (it's about 70? miles away); they send a flat bed to take the car from my house and reimburse me for any rental from Enterprise for the duration.

So what did you do with the FX or did I not read something.  I'd think returning a two month old vehicle would be bath time.

Actually I'm moving to New Orleans in Sept to start a camera rental company for hollywood/films.  There are a couple other side projects but I'll reveal more if they progress.  Anyway, thats great news about the intercoolers and the level of service!  I hope they get everything resolved.

Sadly, there's a full tub of bathwater.

I got it for $48,900 wholesale (but via a  dealer, still) < 2 months ago, traded it for $44K (other dealers were offering me THIRTY SEVEN). I was actually looking a few minutes ago and the dealer I traded it to has kept it in their inventory and is selling it for a "mere" $50K. They might be able to pull that off but it'd say it's a tad optimistic. Smiley
