TPMS
« on: June 15, 2008, 04:36:18 PM »

Did you ever think about the fact that most TPMS sensors - buried away in your rims - are transmitters and have a battery in them? And that batteries don't last forever?

And did you also know that you can't change the batteries when they go out? They're sealed into the sensor units, so when they die, you have to buy another set of sensors, have your tires dismounted, and the new ones installed.

The life expectancy of the batteries is supposedly 5 years, but they live in a pretty ugly environment of extreme heat and bitter cold, and there's no guarantee they'll live that long.

Just thought I'd give you something else to worry about ...  Grin

Just got my new tires installed and transferred the TPMS to the new tires... considering I may never even link the TPMS to the new tires, I wish I hadn't gotten them transferred.... oh well

Because I believe in checking the tire pressures regularly, and feel like its a useless feature since it doesnt tell me my EXACT pressure anyway.

no the G only has a "flat tire light"  its on if the pressure is not where it should be.  There is no numerical report like on the M (and older G's have numbers too I understand)

Oh.. do you have an LCD at all in place of the navi screen?

Thats kind of a crappy thing for nissan to do - not report actual pressures even on cars w/o navi package...

That is unfortunate. I really appreciate the digital readout on the M. I find it to be very accurate on my car.

Our Odyssey also has a similar display, but it is consistenly off by about 2 psi.

yeah i was a little disappointed as well, the wife's jeep has it, and if i had to choose I'd say i'd rather her car have it because she is less observant of things like tire pressure, her tires are bigger, and therfore fluctuations in temp make the pressures off a lot more often.  So its better for ME for HER car to have it!

Hmm.. That would be interesting to know. I thought you could actually view the tire pressure in your center screen from what I recall of the G35 loaner I had like a year ago.. ??

My FX has numeric display as well
It tells you what PSI in each tire
Pretty accurate too Smiley
