I wanted to put some final thoughts down on this car. First the good things. The BMW M6 Convertible is an incredibly fast car. I'm talking 500 HP push you back in your seat fast. It also has 7 speeds and the very handy "M" button to switch from casual gran touring to beast by just pressing a button. The sound system was decent. The interior was shaped really nice and I loved the swoops and things of wood and all leather everywhere. The car was SOLID with a one piece feel to it that was marvelous. The paddle shifters. . uh well they worked; sort of. The Heads Up display was great and I used it 99% of the time I drove it. The handling was superb. I swear this car NEVER; not even once, lost traction and I threw it around hard once in awhile just to see what it could do. Oh and the trunk space was great even with the top down but keep in mind this is longer than my wife's Highlander with 3 row seating. Finally the looks. Even when I turned it in, I thought it was a hell of a nice looking car from the side. Sure the coffin trunk is ugly and the birds nose beak is questionable but the side view is awesome. The wheels are nice too. Now for the bad things. First, reliability is crap. Not just bad, crap. This is the second BMW I've owned after the X5 (which I hated because reliability was bad and dealer was a joke and it was too "tight" feeling for a SUV). This one takes the cake for bad. 13 times it went to the dealer for service. That's in TWO years folks. At the end, the "comfort access" or whatever that supposedly unlocked the doors when you put your hand on the handle NEVER worked after 5 service calls. In the end BMW had the nerve to say "oh it must be radio interference in San Francisco". Amazing it happened in Marin, in Napa, in Monterey and worked 10% of the time in SF but not when you were wearing Jeans. The Electronics are horrible. After I started the car I drove a block and a half before all the electronics were booted up. In that time, no changing of stations or map or phone. Also, at times it just rebooted itself and imploded all settings on xm/radio and phone. Nav display is lame, 3D view is stupid (can't display street names making the whole thing a farce). You have to click over to different screen to get it to do anything, oh and the screen buttons are all icons which both make no sense and are not intuitive. The voice recognition is horrible and my kids and I used to make fun of it "Dial 555-1212" "I didn't understand that" "Dance like a chicken" "Displaying ATM's". You ever see what happens to a map when it displays all ATM machines?? One big map of atms. Oh and you try figuring out how to delete those ATM's. The fit and finish of the body? Horrible. Here's proof:

Look at the size of these gaps! Looks like you could push it together more but ohhh no, service says, it's fine.

Infiniti's Gaps

Then there's the transmission. This is the worst transmission of any car I've ever driven. . . ever. SMG is horrible. Even in M mode where it should make super quick shifts it's: SHIFT one one thousand two IN GEAR. In regular mode it's also bad. When you go up a steep hill (we have a lot in SF) it switches to 2nd gear halfway up the hill. Damn car almost stalls and then it goes 20 feet and then goes back to 1st. I had to keep it in manual for the first three blocks up hill going home every single day. Sometimes, the car would also slip into gear. When it did it felt exactly like someone just hit you. At least a dozen times I had to shockingly WTF look behind me thinking someone just rear ended me. To find nobody there and me feeling foolish. The noise. For a DD this is too noisy and too obnoxious. I've had other parents say "oh that's your car? I hear it a block away". Inside, it's not horrible but you hear the thing constantly which on a daily driver is annoying as hell too.
Anyways, I'm sure I'm forgetting 100 things but that's my final goodbye to this one. I can't see myself ever getting another BMW I was so turned off by this car.
Meanwhile, I'm liking this G. I'll give a more in depth review soon.
