What I really want in a car
« on: June 14, 2008, 12:17:24 PM »

My ideal car:

Something like the M, with a better transmission (7 speed!) and a few more HP. Better brake kit is a must.
Would also like windshield washers that work properly, and would like Infiniti to take a step back from the '08 M and more towards the 06-07 design. I am really not fond of the "dulling-down" they did to the 08.

I am hardcore car shopping and can't find anything that truly excited me like my M did (and still does) when I got it. What am I missing? Is it only me?!

Kidding. I like the LS460 a lot. Other than that, maybe the S5?

What you're missing is the year or two its going to take for the M50 to come out. Wink  That would rectify your engine and transmission concerns.  The exterior style aspect may be a bit hit or miss.

I'm concerned it'll be a miss, and I definitely cant wait the 2 yrs. I am still amazed my transmission is making it between gears at this point...

Funny.. you think like me (kind of). I Like the LS460 style a lot, but I want something that handles more M-like (hence my choice of M rather than GS). I am sure i could get near-m-like-handling in the LS for some serious cash, but i dont have it. Smiley

The S5 is a great looking car, but lacks some of the stuff I'd want in a car of that price... Sad The small gas tank and lack of XM are the biggest deal breakers for me. I am still mulling over the IS-F but the residuals are disappointing to say the least. Will see what happens with the FX when it FINALLY hits showrooms. I am hoping I like it but for some reason think i'll be disappointed.. Sad

Next option is to go to the G35, which would suck even more if they release the G37 sedan at the end of the year.. Argh!

Get a carryover car.  My M6 vert is just carrying me over to the M50 or whatever.  Get a short term lease on an IS-F and then just think of it as a temp.

Sounds like a plan.

I'd buy a used IS-F off you in a year if you wanted to get rid of it!  Next November to be exact Wink

Oh that would definitely take top spot!  You still planning to give up your right-to-buy or going to purchase?  or have no idea, haha?

I am usually very decisive. Got my feathers all ruffled trying to decide on this though. The V-spec and Infiniti rumors just might make me turn it down.

what would probably discourage that happening from my end is.... I hear you'd pay over MSRP which means used in a year will probably be at least MSRP and thats more than I will probably spend on a car anytime soon unless I encounter some financial prosperity.

But back to the original post.... if you seriously want a 7spd trans, and sporty brakes, your choices are really limited.  I think you will be looking at Lexus and MB... what other options do you have if you were shopping tomorrow?

I can't lease due to mileage. Sad The projected residuals on the IS-F are _bad_ too. They quoted me (for grins) $1200 mo for 24-36 months with $0 down and 12k/mi year. Something like 55% residual. I didnt really delve into it, was just curious.
