New Spy Shots: 2009 Audi TT RS
« on: August 21, 2008, 07:13:46 PM »

Work is under way to develop the hottest ever version of Audi’s new sports coupe, likely to be badged TT RS. Audi insiders have promised that the TT RS will be a “real alternative” to the Porsche Cayman when it goes on sale in Europe in late 2008 or early 2009 for an estimated 50,000 euros.

The TT RS, snapped here in the desert southwestern United States, will use a 2.5-litre in-line five-cylinder motor, its first five-cylinder engine in ten years. Early reports indicate that Audi will boost performance to a hefty 350 horsepower using twin sequential turbochargers.

All this grunt will be channeled through Audi’s permanent all-whele-drive quattro system and a six-speed manual gearbox, though the DSG dual-clutch system will also be available as an option. Expect sporty styling with unique large-diameter wheels, alloy-effect door mirrors, aggressive bumpers, RS badges on the brakes and sill extensions. Volkswagen’s new 280bhp 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine, lined up for a hot version of the Passat CC, is expected to be released at the same time to replace the 3.2-litre V6 currently powering the range-topping standard TT.

Yeah no kidding.

Actually i've been following this story ever since we bought our Audi because the salesman told me that Audi is making a little brother to the RS8, (which might be this TT) and I wanted to jump on it.

I don't know if you've been watching the Olympics but Audi is definitely starting to make a global presence that is growing on me, especially their new A4...

I was never a fan of the original TT, but this one and the one's that are out now look wasy better. The older models look too round and reminds me of a bug. This one has better lines.

I would like to get a Audi / VW sometime, or look into it, but I'm a little concerned
with the reliability of these vehicles.   Undecided

okay.... maybe a bit harsh, but it inspired me to do more searching and I found that the rear spoiler is speed controlled (or whatever the word is) like a porsche!  COOOL........

Everyone I know that owned a Audi, Hated it and said it was so un-reliable and all the people I knew that had a VW said the same except for Passat owners.

Yup, I concur captain...

I've had more problems with the Audi than the M.  Well the M technically had no problems... he he (knock on wood)

Maybe this has already been answered, but how long have you
had the Audi?  And what kind of problem's have you had with it?   Smiley

We bought it in November of 2007, and it has about 12k miles on it.

Problems: (in order of appearance)
- Right tweeter not coming up, replaced via warranty (January)
- Subwoofer rattling, housing replaced via warranty (February)
- TPMS warning low on air, when pressure was perfect.  Modules replaced under warranty (February)
- Oil light coming on frequently, no concern says dealer, nothing replaced or fixed (April)
- Engine starts running out of oil, hot weather is cause of engine burning oil quicker (June - August)

They're not huge problems, but they're problems the M never had.  and its not purely indicative of poor craftsmanship or Audi falling under quality factors.  For example, all the speaker components are out sourced (Bang & Olufson), and the engine is considered "high performance, high output" and it requires special grade oil (05w) which burns faster during spirited runs or temperate (hot) weather.
