New Brakes for the M...
« on: July 19, 2010, 05:42:55 PM »

With the rotors massively warped I figured it was probably time (car just turned 60k).  I also wanted the new stuff on before bringing it up north for the summer.  I went with Hawk Blues and so far have been pleased.  While I was in the shop my buddy got a new fully automated A/C computer thing.  Apparently my ac was practically empty.  It then pressurized the system to some insane pressure and monitored it to test for leaks.  I used to keep it at 70-73 and now I keep it at 78.

The brakes didn't NEED to be changed per-se but they were warped so badly it was nothing short of embarrassing.  Asheville, NC (my home town) has some of the best roads one can ask for in pretty much every direction.  Being used to driving an R32 that is 1,300lbs lighter with significantly larger brakes it takes me about .5sec to roast the stock M brakes (my biggest complaint about the car).  I was only in town for a few days before taking off for the 4th and the closest Infiniti dealership is 2 hrs away so I had a buddy of mine who runs a Porsche/Volvo shop throw them on for me.  To make things run as smooth as possible, I had everything waiting for him to put on.  The car is going to be getting some serious miles this summer during the move and the GF will probably be at the helm so I wanted it as solid as possible.  Next is tires and alignment and she is good to go!

Oh your GF is going to be driving... I have a picture to share then.  Let me see if I can upload that, hehe.

And now I realize I haven't ever really posted pics of the M on the new wheels and coils... I don't have those pics at work, but I'll try to get them up too.

Kind of topic but the picture above just reminded me. A frickin tree branch just fell on the car while we were driving....lots of little surface scars on the back left passenger door. Ugh.

I'm not proud to say that nobody can top my (obviously ex) GF ownage..

This brings me to my 2nd biggest complaint about the car.  The paint...
My front bumper got owned by a 2500 I was following when he decided to pull onto the left hand shoulder a bit to get someone to adhere to the rules of the road.  Lucky me he didn't have flaps so one fog light and 583092905490 white dots later...  I slammed on the brakes and didn't think it was as bad as it was.  If I did I would have taken down his license plate info...  I wasn't even following that closely!  I had the fam in the car (mom in front seat) on the way to the family christmas party.  Oh well...  what can you do...

Yup,
It was my first Infiniti...  I was on the prowl for a GS430 Blk/Blk w/o wood steering wheel and after about 3 months of looking I found one in FL at carmax.  I told them I would be getting funds together that day and will be down the next day to pick it up (I was still in savannah at the time).  The next day when I was about to leave I called down there and someone had already bought it.  They said nobody had even looked at the car in 3 months and boom it was gone.  My guess is an employee bought it but who knows.  After that I was sick of waiting and started to broaden my search and started to look at the original Ms.  I was a bit leery about the whole oil consumption thing but wanted to at least drive one so I headed out to the dealership.  Long story short I ended up with the black on black G35S off the showroom floor with every option but the wing...  Yup, I'm a sucker... Wink

The day I picket it up...

I miss my G as well, but I also don't.  The paddles were cool but what I really miss is the aux in as well as the adaptive cruise.  I also miss the blue/white interior color.  I do love the V8 burble and its hard to find a car with as much head room as the M.  I have a really long torso so finding a car can be a huge pain.  Literally...
