You'd think this was Infiniti's first time ever releasing a car...
« on: June 26, 2008, 04:28:37 PM »

Email from one of the dealers in FL regarding my request for an FX50 sport + tech - rear DVD w/ platinum graphite exterior and graphite interior:

Quote
There are only 3 vehicles in the state that
have the options you are looking for, however in addition they have the DVD
option.  The colors are Black / Wheat, Black / Graphite, and Liquid Platinum
/ Graphite.  If you only want the Platinum Graphite / Graphite my
recommendation would be to place a deposit for one so that we can get the
right combination in for you.  When could we get together to do the deposit?

Come on Infiniti. Get your crap together.

It translates to:

"We dont have one, we know another dealer does. Since you want that specific color, we will charge you MSRP, and freight/transport fees to get the vehicle moved". Smiley

can't you just go on autotrader or one of those sites and fill out a form that says what you're looking for and let the dealers contact you?

Then you end up having to manually sift through about 30 dealers calling you.. Sad I've bought cars via that method before, sadly.

seems like that would be the ideal situation... that way you KNOW you're getting the best deal possible.

Like the lending tree commercials... when lenders compete, you win!

Haha

Sadly, in the car realm.. if they know they have something you want, you tend to be at their mercy.

YOU seem to be at their mercy... you wait long enough, you'll get the IS-F at 50k... Just like if I go tomorrow and look at Grand Cherokees and tell them I really want one soon, but then walk and say nevermind... gotta check out "ABC" dealership... they'll chase me down.  But I'm in no rush... just string 'em along... you shouldn't be doing all the work... they're the ones getting paid

Getting replies from dealers:

Quote
I apologize for my delayed reply.  I searched out 3 months into the future and cannot find any other FX50's in Platinum Graphite/Graphite with Sport and Tech.

Seriously. Wtf? It's not like im asking for some esoteric combination. Those are two of the THREE options you can get on the FX..

you are asking for premium/nav, sport and tech in PG with black leather?  doesn't seem like it would be that hard to find

It's actually only TWO packages - one is sport, one is tech.. thats *it*; premium/navi are included on fx50.

Apparently these two options are part of some esoteric configuration (sarcasm here) and are "limited" availability:

Thanks for your reply and I'm sorry for the confusion. Since this is a one-of-a-kind unit, I did some deeper digging.   Turns out that it was promised to a customer who is out of town until Monday or Tuesday, however the customer did not leave a monetary deposit to secure the vehicle.
With such limited availablity we have to be on a first-come first-serve basis.

Are you freaking kidding me? A base FX50 with the TWO options you can get on it is a "one-of-a-kind"? I think infiniti are really showing their (lack of) maturity at this point. They did the same thing to the 2008 M and only released it into the wild with certain configurations even though you can build it loaded.

All of the FX'es I saw on the lot were about 90% FX35, I think some had AWD, some had tech, none had sport since its not available on the 35 anymore (go figure). The TWO FX50's I saw; one was BASE (why bother); one was FX50S (the one I drove), but missing tech package...

I saw only FX35s on the lot at my dealer... I'm sure the gas prices have something to do with it.  you should be able to order whatever it is that you want though if you're willing to wait (which you say you're not... but you've been saying that for 2 months now Tongue)

I'm not willing to wait, plus, again.. if I special order, they'll pretty much demand full price because they can see you want it. Smiley
