G35/G37 Coupe
« on: June 15, 2008, 11:48:54 AM »

So.. I have always been under the impression that the G35/37 coupe was a well selling car for Infiniti, and the residuals seem to remain high.. so that being the case, why is it any time I go to a dealer they have TONS of G37's sitting there that have been there for months, and even have G35's left over... I guess I am missing a piece of the puzzle, but if it's such a great car, why are they sitting on lots for so long?

Well its been tough for them to move the G35 coupe since people realized the G37 was coming.  People hear more hp, better fuel economy, ipod connectivity, and then they look INSIDE the G sedan... they were like: we'll wait!

I was given a 1st gen sedan to drive for about 3 weeks while waiting on my car to get here.  I could have probably leased that car close to half of my payment on the new gen sedan, but I liked the new sedan so much more, I couldn't do it... much like you have said in your threads, when I get ready to buy something expensive, I have to know that its exactly what I want.

Just ask Sean about how much I mulled over the tire decision!

Its a legitimate question, and one that I don't have an evidenced based answer for.  But I'd speculate that Infiniti had a feeling a lot more 1st generation G35 members would be trading in for this car.  What happened though, was a lot of owners like HD have not jumped on the new G37 styling.  Its just not ground breaking like the 1st coupe was.

I personally like the original body over that of the G37's.

Unfortunately, the improvements in design from 1st gen sedan to 2nd didn't translate as well with the coupes.  I really liked the concept, was a bit more angular  and aggressive like the 1st one.  But the focus groups voted to make it softer, etc... wtf. Sad

If the G37 body really looked like this (with regular headlights and rear view mirrors) I would've bought one in a heartbeat.

Agreed. The sedan transformation was an unqualified success.

Wow.. i'd never seen that pic before. That's nice.. I still like the way the G37 body has been re-incarnated for the most part, though. The only part I really dont like is the back. It's way too wide/tall/flat?

All I really want though is the panorama roof that the concept head.  100x better than a sunroof!

What's sad is I can get that roof on a number of cars such as a Scion TC, Mustang GT and Mini Cooper.  They put it on both the EX and G concepts.  Its a great feature that I really wish they'd bring over!

The EX concept went one step further.  The roof was some kind of LCD based screen that could be dimmed at will.
