G35xS?
« on: May 28, 2008, 09:20:25 AM »

Saw what I assume was an 08, possibly an 09 sedan on the way to work this morning.  Had the dealer sticker on the side, but it was on the opposite side of the car I was on so I can't confirm.

But the rear said G35xS.

When did the G35x get a sport variant?  Didn't look like it had the larger brakes or anything.  Definitely had a poseurish look to it.  I wasn't won over and the jumble of letters was the worst.

I think you will find the answer in the first ever Infiniti G "tip of the week!"

That still doesn't tell me much.  So I went to Infiniti's site.  Other than paddle shifters and the little red badge with the 18's, you don't get much.  No larger brakes or anything.  Pretty lame.

well first you get the appearance changes of the sport model... aero package, 18" rims instead of 17".

and yes you get the corny "S" on the back... you're right, too many letters

then inside you get:
  • Solid-magnesium paddle shifters mounted on steering column
  • Front sport seats with thigh extension and driver's power torso and thigh support
  • Unique sport steering wheel stitching
  • Aluminum pedals

You are correct in that you do NOT get larger brakes or VLSD either.  Its nothing amazing, but I thought maybe you thought the G35XS didn't exist and they just threw an "S" on there.

I wasn't sure at first.  Thought maybe somebody was trying to be cool with their G35x then I saw the dealer sticker.  But without seeing the front, I didn't see anything special about it.

Now that I know what's included, still nothing special there.

Its only special in that... I don't think that 18" wheels were an option on the 07 model, and that I really like the sport model options... but if I lived somewhere where I needed AWD for snow, I'd be turned off by the lack of paddle shifters, aluminum pedals, that front bumper, etc. had they not made this option available

What do you think of the bolstered seats?

Never sat in the bolstered seats to get an opinion.

Oh... (for those who are lost... Sean has a G35X today as a loaner) I misunderstood and thought you had a G35XS  No wonder your review of the X is so harsh, haha.

Yes, I have a G35x loaner today as my car is at the dealer for an oil change and to start the documentation process for oil consumption.

I'm emasculated by it. Sad  I don't like sedans!

I think it's just cool that it's G35xS Smiley

Are you sure it doesnt get the bigger brakes? That's weird.

Hope to see some more details on your "oil consumption" note in another thread?

From those pictures it looks like it rides higher, too? I think the AWD M does as well?

AWD models do have a higher ride height than RWD.
