I've decided no matter how hard I try I cant fall in love with the looks of the FX50S, no matter how hard i try. Especially at the price point. maybe 10k off and i'd consider it, but at nearly $60k, no thanks.

I think infiniti is going to ruin the next generation M with their 'softening' process and are going to be left with a very boring line of cars. Seems kind of like the 90's all over again?

And I don't know that I'd call it far superior to the 07-08.. I'd say its merely mildly upgraded.  Afterall, the reviews that have come out for it have noted a whopping 1-2 mpg increase, and relatively unchanged performance numbers (likely because they detuned the engine so it wouldn't blow the G37 coupe away... since the G35 sedan was already doing that).

You guys always default to the performance numbers. There's more to a car than how fast it'll go. (Boy, I'll catch hell for saying THAT!)

I haven't driven the car with the 7-spd trans yet, but I have to believe it's better than the old 5-spd setup (which I got on several occasions as a loaner, and even rented once). That damn thing was like a light switch ... you were either in 5th gear or 2nd - it was hard as heck to drive it smoothly, since any application of throttle would jerk it down 2 or 3 gears and make you look like some teenager on meth. I hated driving it. Give me something with plenty of power, but deliver it SMOOTHLY, and two more gears should do that!

I never had that issue in automatic mode to be honest with you.

And I'm always going to get on performance because Infiniti is the value performance brand.  If my focus was refinement and smoothness, I'd buy a Lexus. Smiley

it is inherently possible that the G's you drove (Mike) were touchy with the throttle because they tend to "learn" the throttle response to correspond with the driving style.  If you were driving loaners and rental cars, people were probably driving them like... well Oz.  So yeah they were probably quick to downshift.  My car isn't even jerky or quick to downshift in DS mode.  I think its smooth, but I definitely DID like the 7speed transmission in the FX... I'm just saying from the reviews I've read aren't leading me to believe this car is going to blow me away with improvement.  However, I DO look forward to test driving it for my own experience.

The 2008 G is no longer on the Infiniti site, only the 2009. Welcome!

This was news to me.  Thanks for pointing it out.

Some interesting options:
MSRP

     Illuminated Kick-plates    $350.00
     Aero Dynamic Package    $845.00
     Front Chin Spoiler   $490.00
     Vehicle Alarm Impact Sensor    $130.00
     Rear Spoiler  $520.00
     Aero Dynamic Package  $845.00
     Rear Spoiler  $520.00
     Aero Dynamic Package  $845.00
     Midnight Black Grille $320.00

From viewing the Infiniti website, it appears that the Aero package is basically a front chin spoiler and rear spoiler.  Does it include anything else?  Does anyone have any photos to post of what the car looks like with a front chin spoiler, rear spoiler and/or Midnight Black Grille?

I guess I don't see the need for a big hoopla because these are things that they've dragged their feet on doing rather than doing them when it should've been done in the first place.  Considering the way they're equipping the Euro models, the US models now seem rather lacking so I don't feel it's appropriate to make a big fuss over it when they're barely keeping up with their own models in other countries. Kind of like, hooray for being late to the party! Smiley

Besides, you're getting the engine, brakes and transmission, what more do you really want?  Everytime they start tweaking things like the body and other things, people start screaming.  Look at how you guys responded to the updates to the M. If something is good, go with it and don't bother wasting time on it until the full model update. Smiley

BTW Oz, Nov for a 2009 model is a late rollout.  Means they were doing everything they could to push out the 08 inventory before rolling out the 09.  The sales crunch as of late made that harder than usual I'd suspect.

I think the upgrade is pretty significant for a mid-cycle model.  On the one hand, you could say what's the big deal, features are just being added that should have been there in the first place.  On the other hand, that comment could be made about almost any improvement.  I think the upgraded transmission in particular is a big deal improvement, regardless of whether it could have been added earlier.  It makes sense that the exterior was not changed, since that change would require retooling, and in my view the exterior is one of the strongest positive features of the car already.

The upgrades to the G37 Sedan are not enough to temp me to repace my 07 G37 Sedan.  But then with the current economic climate, I have decided to hunker down a bit on spending and am not in the market for a new car.  But if I did not already have a G35, and were in the market for a car, the upgrades would from my perspective make an attractive car even more attractive (except for the price increase).

I looked all over for pictures of the "black grille" but all I've found is what I think are aftermarket painted black grilles, seeing as they are the same "samurai sword" grill just matte black.  Not sure if this is what the factory grill will look like or if it will be mesh or Huh?  Anyhow... there's nothing astounding here, but nice mod to the G for perspective buyers who don't already own a G35 I guess
