2009 FX and Infiniti's vow of secrecy
« on: May 13, 2008, 10:52:43 PM »

I am a previous FX owner, loved the FX, but it was honestly my "test car" for Infiniti. I knew the M was coming up, and needed to sell my old car (lexus GS) to a family member, so I bought the FX and got a _great_ deal (it was either the 1st or 2nd model year, I honestly cant remember.. but in short, Infiniti built a couple hundred too many "loaded" FX45's and they were sitting on dealer lots. I got mine BRAND NEW after sitting a YEAR on a dealer lot for $10K off MSRP!).

Anyway:

The old FX was completely hyped, just like the M. Very much as I'd expect for such significant cars in Infiniti's history.

Now, the new FX - what are they doing? They have been immensely tight lipped, released the car to the press a mere month or so ago, and are "allegedly" bringing it stateside to dealers in June/July.

Infiniti has allowed dealers to place orders for allocation and nothing more, no options, no pricing, no anything.

The FX is less than 2 months from hitting show room floors and Infiniti dealers can't even tell you pricing or options available. What kind of marketing is this on Infiniti's part?

My M probably won't be around much longer, short of a miracle. That being the case, I am definitely considering the FX but am not 100% in love with it. I really love my M, but it has its own set of issues that are unlikely to be resolved in a way i'll be satisfied with.

At any rate, I have been desperately trying to figure out what options the FX50 is going to have for interior. I have only seen FX50 pictures with this crazy Wood-Piano Black-Aluminum-Plastic mash-up. I saw an FX35 picture that showed all piano black; I am not personally in LOVE with the piano black but I like it a lot more than said mash-up. Anyone have any idea if the FX50 will have an option for just Piano Black?

FX50 ghastly mess:

VS:

Which as far as I can tell, may only be available on the FX35 (piano black only); apparently Infiniti think the mash-up is higher end then the Piano black.

Am I the only one who dislikes the mash-up?

Good info!
About pricing
I've seen $54K for base FX50 on some of the car magazine website which recently tested it
And FX50 base = FX45 (fully loaded) plus more, which was 52K or so
Meaning FX50 base is pretty loaded including Nav
I think they kept pricing fairly unchanged, if 54K is true number

Yeah - I found that link too, BUT!

It says, under interior:

Hand-stained maple wood interior trim | V8 AWD | V6 AWD | V6 RWD
                                                  |     S       |     P      |     P

So it looks like you can "upgrade" the FX35 from piano black to wood, but that the FX50 comes standard with the wood mash up. I want to do the opposite, I'd want to "downgrade" the FX50 to the all piano black.. Sad

well some people buy perfectly good wood grain vehicles and then replace the stuff with aftermarket wood grain or carbon fiber or sparkly stuff  Wink  I wouldn't think it would be that hard.   Could possibly be done as a dealer installed option too.

Most people do stick on/lay over thingies (cant think of proper term); i'm not a huge fan of the 'raised' look because it makes all the buttons look recessed.

I know a lot of G buyers had dealers swap the washi aluminum for wood grain because wood grain isn't available in the "Sport" model.  (on a side note, I think it IS available that way now, but wasn't for the 2007 MY)  It wasn't a very expensive endeavor either if I recall.  As more details about the model make it to the dealerships, I'd suggest you ask them about it.
