2011 M mini-site up at infinitiusa.com
« on: December 20, 2009, 05:38:55 PM »

It's at the bottom of the page - click it and you can get a pretty thorough rundown on the new 2011 M's.

I'm getting pretty pumped about this thing, and am anxious to see it in person. Wish it weren't going to be next April before it's released!

http://www.carfaq.org/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=16462&g2_serialNumber=4&g2_GALLERYSID=1492600a55d738a259397ce3221f96c4

I'd take one in this same color -

Cool.  I requested a brochure about a month ago, so far nothing.

Didn't like this "blind spot intervention system".   So you want to cut off some hypermiler jerk in a Prius on the left most lane but then it will apply the brakes to "help" you get back into your lane?!  WTF?  Hope it can be disabled easily.

No new pictures, but the flash (?) animation is neat.

Yeah, I would seriously un-check the option box for the blind spot intervention thingy. I dislike anything that intervenes and takes over control of my car "for me". One reason I won't have radar cruise control ...

I actually like those smart cruise controls.

i would imagine it can be disabled just like everything else.  Those are some seriously large wheels though right?

Disable like forever?  The LDW is a pain, everytime you turn on the car, it's on again.  It should be like the "snow", you can put it on/off and it sticks.  [Actually I think it does not...I don't know what does stick after ign is off...]

So far the LDW and "intelligent" cruise controls have been options, so it's been easy enough to avoid them. I just hope they don't bundle them in with desirable packages like Technology (Nav, VR, upgraded audio, etc.).

The automotive press are almost 100% in their disdain for LDW, and all praise the fact you can at least turn it off. The new LDI will actually wrest control of the wheel from you (okay, actually just "tug" it) if it thinks it knows better than you.

I've driven Intelligent Cruise only once, and it annoyed me right away. First, it applied the brakes on a slight curve when it sensed an oncoming car and thought I was about to rear-end someone. Then, it over-reacted and braked when I was just starting to pull out and pass a slower car ... the worst possible time to be braking! In addition, it braked a little too alarmingly when approaching slower cars ahead.

I was called a Luddite on a car forum once for not liking certain stuff like this ... but just because it's technology doesn't mean it's good technology. The human element of judgement sometimes trumps mindless technology.

That I certainly agree with.

I was quite pleased with the adaptive cruise on the G35.  I miss it dearly on the M.  I never had problems with it mistaking on coming cars or anything like that.  It is quite weird to get used to having the car slow down for you and for the first couple weeks I wasn't sold but once I trusted it I never turned it off.  The lane departure thing is a bit much, I tried it in the EX and while it might be nice for people who drive drunk, thats about the only thing I see it could be good for.

I like both features, though I rarely use cruise on any car. I know the LDW is hated almost universally, but it doesn't bother me in the least. Except for days with light conditions that drive it nuts....

I really like the Sequoia's laser cruise control...I used a lot in my last trip in the mountains, single file climbing is boring without it and safe with it.  Now on the way back the lens got dirty and it turned itself off with a warning.  You then have to hold the lever 3 secs down and it will turn back on again in dumb mode.  Not the same thing at all.

Hate LDW, but it saved me once when I was distracted by the carputer...

IMHO Infiniti makes the worst adaptive cruise out there. They are one of the VERY few luxury brands still using laser rather than radar. Laser has such a narrow beam width that it can miss very important things (motorcycles) and also suffers from the light-washout issue. The radar in my M was "iffy" at best and I pretty much didn't use it as it would go flying up on vehicles, stomp the brakes (repeat). The '02 LS430 with Laser cruise is actually better to use than the M's was; and most of the new Lexus ACC is radar and not laser. Not sure why nissan/infiniti are clinging to this one.

I believe Infiniti has updated the M micro-site, or my Alzheimers is setting in.

PS: Just looked at http://www.infinitiusa.com/allnewm/index.html?#/welcoming-cockpit - I am going to take a guess at this and assume it's due to computer rendering - but that tach redlines at 7.5K! I know the G37 does too, but it sounds like it's in serious pain at high RPM. I wonder what infiniti will do to 'subdue' the M?
