Demodding!
« on: July 24, 2008, 07:38:09 PM »

In the next month I'll be demodding my G35.  I've decided that long term, I want to get both a house and a GTR rather than to keep building my G35.  So I'm going back to stock and will trade in for a less expensive lease than my current finance.  If I get a new car in Sept/Oct for about 1/2 to 2/3 of my current monthly payment on a 39 month lease, I'll be in better shape than paying off the final 18 months of my loan, even though its a little bit more in the long run.  Will give me more money now to pay into other things and save. Smiley

I'll post up as items come off and are for sale.  Keep your eyes open!

My short list of mods

Mods I'll be taking off
  • Stillen CAI
  • Stillen Z-Tube
  • Motordyne 3/8" plenum spacer (they don't make this size anymore)
  • Stillen Engine Dampener
  • VRT / RA Front Strut Brace
  • Stillen Rear Strut Brace
  • Nismo 3.917 gears / Quaife Differential
  • AP Racing BBK (6/4 piston)
  • KW Variant 3 coilovers
  • SPL Endlinks
  • 350EVO Sway Bars
  • Strup Headers w/ White Lighting coating
  • HKS DLI II
  • JDM Driver Side Battery Cover (both covers painted OB)
  • Advan T7 wheels w/ ContiExtremeContact tires
  • Volk Progressiv ME wheels w/ Vredestein tires
  • Gialla Grille
  • JDM HID Foglights (Not 100% sure what I'm doing about these yet...)
  • GT-Spec tie bars and lateral brace

And all my lighting stuff from clearcorners.com
  • 06 modified headlights
  • Colormatched corner indicators
  • Door sill lights
  • Dual function map lights
  • Vanity Lights
  • Rear license plate lights
  • Tail Lights (once delivered)

I'm not 100% sure what I'm getting yet either though.  G37, 2009 A4 and A5 are top of my list to look at.  I'm leaning to stay with a couple and I want something on par with my current G35 (within reason).  That's why I had my lease thread.  Ideally I'm trying to aim for $450 a month, but even up to $550 still saves me a couple hundred each month and is worthwhile.

A5 is nice, but the gas mileage is worse than the G37 from what i recall and it's also a bit heavier, AND has a smaller gas tank...  but its a really nice car.

Ah

helldorado - how much time do you think you are going to spend doing all this de-modding? Seems like a lot of work. I know everything is worth some amount of money once removed.. but do you think it'll be worth the labor you put in to taking it off? Just curious...

Its rated for 18/27 while G37 is rated for 17/26.  How I drive it would determine most of that.  Its only 70 lbs heavier too.  Negligible in the grand scheme of things, but it'll be slower with the smaller engine.  Trade-off for the AWD IMO.

Fuel tank is 3 gallons smaller, 16.9 vs 20.0.  Another non-issue for me.

LOL, uh, yeah.

The only item I plan to pay to have removed is the brakes.  That's mainly because brake swaps are a pain in my ass and I'm not 100% sure I have all the hardware for the stock brakes I'm putting on.  That's more easily handled by my shop if they need parts.

Everything else I'm taking off myself.  Those wheels are going to be hard to take off too.  Cheesy

Things like:

Nismo 3.917 gears / Quaife Differential
Motordyne 3/8" plenum spacer

Aren't those kind of involved? You think you'll be able to fetch a good price for them?

Nismo 3.917 gears / Quaife Differential

Sold as a pumpkin swap.  They take my pumpkin, give me cash, I take theirs.

Plenum spacer is fairly simple.

Put your G stuff for sale on g35driver and my350z. They will sell in NO time! GT-R and a house sound good for the future!

Oh yeah...and for you guys with M35's...you could use his MD plenum spacer. Installation is easy. Just make sure you replace all the bolts and seal it real good so it doesn't leak. It doesn't take an experienced mechanic to install/remove a plenum spacer.
