Monterey 2008: Infiniti releases G37x coupe, G37 sedan, revised M35
« on: August 18, 2008, 12:42:25 PM »

From Autoblog

Quote
Infiniti ramped up its presence in Monterey this year with the new G37 sedan and G37x coupe, the latter equipped with the automaker's advanced ATTESSA E-TSO all-wheel-drive system and seven-speed automatic gearbox. We're looking forward to seeing if the AWD coupe can retain the engaging driving characteristics of its RWD counterpart, while providing the security of all-wheel-drive for those of us that like to make a run into the mountains during the snow season.

Infiniti also used its time on the peninsula to show off the first image of the G37 convertible (we curbed our urge to take a picture of the picture), along with the release of the revised M35 and M35x. The 2009 model benefits from the automaker's scratch shield paint, new seven-speed auto 'box and an increase in output to 303 hp, while still boosting fuel economy by one mpg. We're eagerly anticipating the 3.7-liter V6 finding its way under the hood of the M sometime around the turn of the decade, with some G-inspired styling to match its newfound horsepower.

I figured they will call it the M37 when it actually gets a 3.7 liter engine right?  And that revised M35 is the '09 model?  I thought the 7spd auto was coming on the '10 model...  did I miss something?

What the hell is infiniti doing? Why did they bother mating the 7 spd to the 3.5L for a measly 1.5MPG gain? Also, what about the 45? Argh!

some of you, not to mention names, don't pay attention to the many posts on these subjects... I'll post again... the M35 gets the 7speed auto in its RWD iterations, not in the AWD iterations, and there are no plans to put the 3.7 into the car until its gets the complete redesign.

Did anyone notice the sedan's rims suck big time, the seat heater turnstyle buttons and the new design of the spoiler?

Some questions are 'rhetorical'. No need for the attitude.

The way that's worded implies that the M35 and M35X both get a 7 spd, when as you mention, only the M35 non-AWD does.

autoblog is a lot like wikipedia; don't always accept what you read there as fact.  A lot of it is speculation.

I'll stick with more reputable sources, which is what I was relaying in my post.

M35: The larger M35 sedan gets the latest version of Nissan’s 3.5-liter V-6 and as a result gains about 25 horsepower. Rear-drive M35s get a new seven-speed automatic transmission; all-wheel-drive models soldier on with the five-speed automatic.

I guess it just gets a little tiring posting the same info over and over again.... but hey thats what I'm here for right?  And if I find out my info is incorrect... I'll be the first one to post that I was wrong... it'd be great if they put a 3.7L in this year and a 7AT in the AWD.

Are you talking about the M sedan or the G, because the M in the picture seems to have the same knobs for the seat temperature control...  I guess you would be talking about the G sedan because that one has the redesigned spoiler...

you are correct... the G has redesigned wheels and seat heating controls that are knobs now instead of 2 way rocking switches.

And yes my info on the M transmission is in another post

Most of the members here read stuff from lots of conflicting sources and things get confusing at times. Not to mention that we might actually miss a post on this forum on occasion.  Shocked

A couple of my observations:

- The red on that coupe hurts my eyes. It belongs on a fire truck or maybe a pickup truck with wood cladding on the sides.

- The rims on the coupe are excellent. The ones on the sedan - not so much. [Imagine a smiley throwing up, here.]

- The front end of the M looks ... well, swollen. Like maybe it has the mumps, or had a slap-fight with a bigger car and lost. I wish they would have changed that to make it trimmer and sleeker. Maybe the restyle will bring it into the 21st Century.

- When Acura put its 3.7-liter in the RL to replace the 3.5-liter for 2009, gas mileage went down by 1 or 2 mpg (right in the midst of $4 gas). Since the new M will have the 300+hp version of the 3.5, I'm okay with sticking with that engine. After all, if it lost gas mileage just to gain a few hp, it wouldn't be doing it any favors.

I'm anxious to see if the new 7-speed trans drives well. Why it's not in the V-8 version I don't know, but I suspect it's a supply issue.
