To me it just looks like a huge suv trying to look like a car.  Now that cross overs are all the rage, everyone is having a hay day with mixing and matching parts and designs from each others bins.  VW did this with the new GTI, using tail lights from the Taureg!?  WHAT??

http://www.vwvortex.com/artman/uploads/golf3_001.jpg

Sorry a bit of a rant...
I personally don't get it.  The whole "cross over" thing.  The big problem I have with cars these days is that they aren't built with purpose anymore.  They all are trying to be the perfect vehicle to everyone at the same time.  Leaving us the consumers stuck with cars that handle like trucks and trucks without any room, ground clearance or towing capacity and they might tell you it drives "car like" but you can't fool physics.  This is one reason why I think the Ford Raptor, despite being in a recession with gas prices waiting to go up, is doing as well as it is.  Its something that is designed with purpose that stands out in a sea of mediocrity.  Gone are the days when car companies try to woo you with anything truly exciting.  Now they just slap some new electronics in it and wait for the numbers to roll in.  I mean hell, even "The Ultimate Diving Machine" is starting to share platforms (7/5).

I have to agree on the prior QX (and Nissan Armada) road manners. For a BIG SUV you'd never know it by the way it drove. It was a little lacking in the braking department but the engine was "quite good" and it was deceptively fast despite its size and weight. It is also one of the "most planted" feeling full sized SUV's I've ever driven. I do not like the Explorer, Tahoe, etc. Too much body roll. Something about the QX/Armada provides it with this amazingly stable, and agile feeling (despite the size). The new QX is getting pretty good reviews regarding its road manners, but I think the looks are a bit over the top.

Now, regarding "vehicles without a purpose", I just came from one (FX), and I think this Top Gear video sums it up the best:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/npdwQhWyBFo&amp;ap=%2526fmt%3D18&amp;rel=0" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/npdwQhWyBFo&amp;ap=%2526fmt%3D18&amp;rel=0</a>

5:24 kind of summarizes the whole "crossover" market at this point, I think...

I'm still in between on the looks; nice review though. I have seen some interesting data regarding the SUV market returning again ("Will americans ever learn?") was the title, I believe (Not saying I agree!)

Besides the questionable looks, i'd honestly personally like to drive the new QX just to see how it feels. I loved the (existing) Armada and old QX. Despite being huge vehicles, they handle extremely well (at least I think)...

i want to dig this car so much... but its tuff right now.... did see one driving around a park one day... it really stood out.  Not in a bad way, or maybe its just cause I am a car guy....

let us know how your test drive goes.... is the armada looking the same? or is Nissan going to keep the QX different (hope so)...

Nissan decided to kill the Armada I think.  And Joe... I seriously doubt a $70,000 SUV is in my future.  I'll probably be buying something like that Explorer or a minivan next, hahaha

still can't get over that rear.... not only the tail lights but the "hump" in the middle of the trunk/rear window.   I hated that on the 1st gen lincon navigator that trunk line was not straight.

the head lights that are lower than the hood line is not that good of a look as well...  too bad cause that interior is pretty damn nice.... but for the lack of arm rests...

And what bothers me is the rear wiper... that thing is tiny on that huge rear window.
