Spotted a EX35
« on: November 09, 2008, 08:51:54 AM »

Yesterday, I saw the first Infiniti EX35 I have seen outside of a dealership or car show.  When I saw it, I wondered what color Infiniti had for it.  I looked it up.  Of course, Dark Currant. Spotting an EX35 around here is like spotting a rare bird.

What did you think of it?  I've seen a few of them on the road and didn't really think much of the car.  I thought it looked pretty good at the local car show but for some reason it didn't impress me while in motion.

I did not quite know what to think of the EX35.  It looks sort of like a cross between the FX and G, but instead of looking like the best of both I think the styling of both the FX and G works a lot better.

I like to think of the EX as a lighter EX, without the conventional style of the G.

And again, the EX works much better than the MDX and the X3, no contest there, so I find the car attractive, to a point.  It should be selling more, but I think it came late to the party.  But I suppose if you like the Rogue and the Hyundays, and wanted something more stylish and tech, you could migrate to the EX.

Its really just a tall G station wagon.  Infiniti didn't think a wagon would sell so they jacked it up a bit and called it a crossover.

If it had been marketed more as a wagon, meaning they designed it with the suspension of the sedan, I would've strongly considered it.  Then I could've swapped in one of the G coupe's aftermarket coilover suspensions (without modification) and had the utility of the hatch but the handling of a modded coupe.  Considering the RWD EX35 is within 100 lbs of the G37 coupe, that would've definitely been a livable trade-off and a very worthwhile alternative to the STI.

But the lines are soft.  I read literature and it was definitely aimed more at female buyers.  To be a "her" compliment to "his" FX.

I think infiniti was expecting the EX to be a HUGE seller for them, and it looks like the car has completely tanked. I am wondering if they will discontinue it next MY? From what I had seen, it got good/decent reviews - but in the end came out to be overpriced to most people.

Well, if the group on here is any indicator of the average buyer in their target market, none of you would be happy with a vehicle that small that purports itself to be "utility."  Even the cars most of you drive on a daily basis are land barges, we're going to get any of you into a smaller crossver?
