IS-F on Top Gear
« on: December 04, 2008, 07:12:53 PM »

Wish i could post the video here, but alas, youtube keeps yanking it (presumably due to BBC demands).

At any rate - of course, they put the IS-F up against the M3. Jeremy was surprisingly "nice" about the IS-F. In the end, of course, he said the M3 was better. He unfortunately blasted the transmission which I think is one of the best parts of the car. There was a weird ploom of smoke that came out of the backend of the car when Stig stepped on it for their normal lap around the ring (it wasn't tire smoke). He commented during the lap (as he normally does) that Stig was "working all 8 gears" around the track. I can't think of a single reason this would be true, there's no way he hit 170MPH on the track, and you hit the speed limiter in 6th. It's likely he never got above 4th. It also kind of bugs me that they don't mention what "settings" they use for the cars, each car obviously performs better in different scenarios/configurations. The IS-F is NOT the same car with sport mode on vs off.

Brilliant car, but only an eight-speed gearbox? Pitiful. I want nine. Or ten

Honestly hadn't seen that. It's weird how they compliment it under 'quality' and then give it a lower rating than merc or bmw(!)

I also lack to understand why even the UK version gets the marker lights on the front fenders, and the US version doesn't...

Was watching episodes on my DVR while eating lunch today, came across the IS-F episode.  Found the video on youtube.

These show are biased and are BMW friendly. Overall the IS-F is a great car and it is underrated.

And what is so great about this car? And why it's underrated?
I havent found anything that would swing me to buy one
I would get M3 or C63 first
At least i can have some backseat and trunk space, which IS-F is lacking
Overly stiff suspension which handles worse than competition and offers uncomfortable ride, hm.. sounds good....................................NOT

Here is my take on "biased"
A lot of magazines and reviewers a biased and BMW friendly
I wonder why
I think they called each other and desided that BMW is their favorite car
Fairly good explanation, no?
Or I think they all got compensated for spredding the word

The funny thing is:
Many drivers would bash bimmers all day long and few months later you see them on BMW forums bashing thier previously-owned Infinitis, Lexuses, Audis, etc

I wonder why there are so many BMW-biased people

Speaking of being BMW biased... lol. Grin

Actually, the Top Gear presenters are biased to BMW at all.  Their take is if you drive a BMW, or even an Audi now, odds are you're a cock.

My take on BMW's:

  • Exterior: 3 and X5 series are beautiful. Rest still suffer from Bangleopia (other than X3/6?). I hate Z series.
  • Performance: All are very good performers.
  • Pricing: All are overpriced.
  • Interior: I dislike their interiors in general (to austere).
  • Demographic: Most buyers get them for brand related prestige.
.
[Edit by Ohmster] Corrected first bullet to "3 and X5" and not "3 and 7"

but aren't the 3 and 7 bangle cars?  maybe not the new 7... but it looks a heck of a lot like the old 7 which was a bangle car.  I think he made a huge impact on car styling across the world, and i can't see why everyone bashes him all the time.  Its not like he designed the oldsmobile aurora

I like the newer looks of the BMW's, the 5 series look a lot like Altima 3.5 SE.
I still say Andrey has the best looking BMW I've seen, pics anyway.   Grin

My post corrected. 3 is not so much a Bangle vehicle anymore. Many changes since.

Didn't he? Smiley

Haha... So true
Most of them (drivers) are a$$holes

I also hate getting so much attention with this car (luckily good ones mostly)
...It's just a 3-series for crying out loud!
