LED fender lights (soon-to-be modification, maybe)
« on: March 25, 2009, 11:30:20 PM »

So, I had wanted to add some lights in addition to the puddle lamps under the mirrors.. and the side vents seemed like the appropriate place to start. I've been wanting to do this for a while but other people have beat me to it.

(Other person's car (DFLORES @ clublexus))

Still waiting for him to post daytime pics so I can see how he actually mounted them. He says they arent visible in the day but I can't imagine how because it looks like he used one of the flexible sealed LED tubes.

Anyway, I ordered some LED's to do some experimentation and got them today. This is what I have come up with so far (excuse the wires)

My car:

(White, two LEDS)

(Orange, one LED due to laziness)

Thoughts? (Honest ones!)

I'm thinking of hooking the white LED's up to the puddle lamps + separate on/off switch, and then doing Orange hooked to turn signals(?)+separate switch. I also bought a set of blue.. not sure if I want to use those or not. Neat color but good way to attract bad attention from police.

Wow, no... that looks like shite.  Maybe its the pics, but I thought about it a little more and its just not good placement / use of LED's at all.  Side LEDs like that just don't look good to me.  I hardly use the term, but definitely a ghetto, ricer mod and really makes your car look cheap.

And you know I'd be honest if you even didn't want me to. Smiley

I am afraid I am inclined to agree with ^. I would have been more polite about it, but the sentiment would have been the same...

Well, I kinda of like it.  I would not like the idea in theory, but looking at the pictures, it looked cool.   Maybe you could hook it so that every time you accelerate it past, say 3000rpm, the led would turn on, or intensify as the rpms go higher.   Grin

It's definitely ricerish, but I kind of like it.  But then again, I liked the Fast and Furious cars!

Kinda surprised by the reactions to tell you the truth. I guess I don't consider it a "ricey" mod as I don't intend on running them independently except for rare occasions; otherwise they'll be tied to the puddle lamps (and maybe turn signals). Oh well, we'll see. Thanks for your honest feedback(s) Smiley

I think those led look better than most widespread mods, like tinting the lights, which I think it's a disgrace.

Lights are fun, and since you have the performance in spades, you can get away with some silly mods.  Grin

I am probably going to do the light thing. I'm really not sure why (mostly) everyone here is against it? BMW's have "ambient/accent" lighting everywhere and they dont consider that ricey. Not sure what makes this in particular ricey?

I might also tint the tails, so there! Wink

I'm flattered but confused. I'm not sure what "caliber" this car is Smiley It's really just an IS ($32K) with another $30k of factory rice Smiley
