Bumper rash
« on: July 11, 2008, 04:16:21 PM »

As I mentioned in another thread, some jackass rubbed his white car against the right rear corner of the bumper of my LS in a parking lot recently. At first, I thought it might just rub out with a little polishing compound, but it was not to be ... he took it down to the black base color of the bumper cover. I guess the good part is that it didn't actually physically damage the bumper cover.

Took the car to a couple of places, since my old paint detailer has gone on to other things, and I couldn't readily find anyone to do it for me. Stopped by the Lexus dealer, and found they have a guy who does this, and in fact, spends almost all his time on bumpers.

They quoted me $299, and when I made a face and explained I had had similar work done for half that, they agreed to $220. Took a day to finish it, and it looks perfect ... like it never happened.

Interestingly, the service guy told me they screwed up, since my car has the little round parking sensors and that requires that they remove the whole bumper cover. Should have been $350. Wow. The guy who used to do my paint detailing probably would have done it for maybe $150 tops. I've got to find another good detailer!

p.s. - The service writer also told me the Lexus paint is ultra expensive ... a little pint-sized can costs about $300.  Shocked

Glad it turned out well. My car has been rear ended so many times at low speeds at this point I dont even care about the bumper anymore.

Given the quality of infiniti's paint I can't imagine it's that expensive. : )
