Lexus LF-A Price Revealed
« on: May 21, 2008, 08:09:57 PM »

I didn't realize Lexus thought they were in the same league as Ferrari and Lambo.  I thought this was going to be a ONE hundred 25 grand or so car, not 225k.  I still think it looks funny, and I'd rather have 3 GT-Rs!

SANTA MONICA, California — After three auto show appearances and the occasional spy photo and video from Germany's high-speed Nürburgring test circuit, it's no secret that the Lexus LF-A supercar concept is headed for production. With an estimated 500 horsepower coming from the LF-A's 5.0-liter V10, we didn't expect the Lexus to come cheap, but Inside Line has learned that the car will carry a price tag over $200,000.

A Lexus source in Japan told Inside Line the price for the carbon-fiber supercar may be as high as $225,000.

Shown in both coupe and roadster forms, the LF-A will first launch as a coupe. Roadster versions will be priced even higher. Both body styles are approximately 2 inches shorter and an inch narrower than the 483-hp Ferrari F430, with a similarly sized wheelbase. A 2007 Ferrari F430 Spider costs $211,525.

Although final specifications have not yet been released, Lexus says the LF-A will reach a top speed over 200 mph.

Coupe is nice, but for the price, I would get three cars, but not the same mix as you:

  • R8
  • GT-R
  • and whatever is left toward a Civic Hybrid! Smiley

Didn't necessarily say I would GET 3 GT-Rs... just that if given the choice... 3 GT-Rs or an LF-A.  I'd take 3 different colored GTRs!

In reality, my mix would probably be:

  • GT-R
  • M6 Convertible
  • Tahoe

Thats probably a little over the budget... but hey this is make believe anyway!

I'm in agreement with you, only I'm not a big fan of the vents in the back, or the tailpipes either.  The tailpipes make me think of the mask the killer wears in Scream.

front end looks weird... but I'm guessing it looks better in person.

and whats up with the hood fitment?  is that an intentional air intake?

No, that's part of the updated Night Rider/KIT option.  Cool

Well, you can't get an F430 spyder for $211 unless you have purchased at least. . I'd guess 3 from the dealer already at typical prices.  Then you have to get on the list, then you have to try to get to the top of the list.  Most people on the top of the list get their car for FREE.  Yes, I said for FREE.  Typically, the first say 3 or 4 on the list get their car at MSRP.  They get to drive it for a year or two then they HAVE to give it back to Ferrari dealer they bought it from.  The dealer resells it at usually a profit such that you get all your money back plus taxes plus insurance plus everything else.  No, you can't go around them (well you can but it's a bit complicated how to do it).  Ferrari has you sign a document saying you give them the first option to buy the car from you and they are actually a lien holder on the car.
Here's a real example: Brand new 2006 Ferrari F430 Spyder left SF Ferrari for $218,000 in November 2005.  Car was brought back in June 2007 and sold by the dealer for $290,000.  Original buyer got all his money back including taxes, insurance, hell even gas.  Dealer split the remainder with him.  Eseentially he got PAID to drive the F430 for a year and a half.  Now this is just for new ones off the lot that sell to the guys lucky enough to be at the top of the list.  I know the guy with the 599 Fiorino and he already has had offers for $60k more than he paid for it and he has had the car for over a year.  Crazy huh guys?  I'm still working my way up the list.  I'm #4 or 5 I think for the California but I may not get it because the dealer only expects 2.  The Scuderia?  Forget it.  They actually aren't even putting folks on the list for the F430 anymore because by the time they get off the list, the replacement will already be here.  Oh and I'm pretty far down on that list too.  Gotta buy a few more to move up Sad
