Navi/LCD summary?
«
on:
June 26, 2008, 05:12:03 PM »
Any LS/IS/etc owners out there with navi...
When I test drove the IS-F I was very surprised to see that the LCD had no "summary" screen to show me things like Infiniti does - eg, A/C temp, stereo settings, all summarized onto one page. Maybe I just didnt look through the interface far enough.. but to anyone who has navi on their lexus, is there a page/summary screen like what I mentioned?
Thanks!

Not completely sure what you're asking , Oz. My LS has a constant LED display just below the Nav screen that shows A/C temp and outside temperature. The outside temperature is also displayed in the little display between the tach and speedo.
To display and change specific A/C fan settings (fan speed, vents in use, etc.) I have to push a button called "Climate" which changes the Nav display to show the climate control settings. Check this picture to see what I'm referring to:
Does that answer your question, or ... ?

Yup!
This is what the M has that I would miss in the Lexus:

The Lexus display shows all the same stuff, but it just takes a different approach. For example, the climate control info is shown when you press the "Climate" button:
Pressing the "Audio" button brings up audio info (in this case, the SAT 1 presets ) There are 3 sets of SAT presets. :
Touching the "Text" soft button on the above screen displays the specifics of the channel's current content (and don't laugh at my country music). This screen also allows access to sound settings, seek and scan, SAT content types, etc.:
In between the speedometer and tach is a display that shows everything from TPMS, to miles to empty, to real-time mileage, to elapsed time, to average speed, to mileage since last fill up, to you name it. Mile to empty displayed here as an example. You scroll through these displays via a button on the steering wheel:
At all times (unless you turn it off), outside temperature is shown on this screen, as well as in the center console display below the Nav screen. The time is also displayed at all times, above the Nav screen.
Lexus' approach is an attempt to reduce the number of buttons on the dash and center stack. It accomplishes that, but I agree it takes a button punch or two more than some systems to get to the info. You get used to their system in no time, and it suddenly feels very natural. But I agree that Infiniti has at least a few displays (like TPMS) that I wish Lexus had!
Hope this helps.
Mike

yeah i think Oz was saying he wished there was a "summary" screen where you could see everything... on my G you can hit status and see whatever mode you're in: CD/AUX/FM, as well as temp settings, and miles to empty
I dont see anything wrong with each value being shown in different places as long as they're all visible

Gotcha. Yeah, it's there, but admittedly it takes more button punches to get it in some cases. As advanced as Lexus is in many areas, it could use some real help in some of the electronics categories!

I think the clock is only displayed on screen if you have navi (which I think you dont?); there's also a setting to turn it on/off..

Thanks for the pics.. extremely helpful. Pretty much exactly what I thought, though (no summary
).. at any rate, it's pretty well laid out otherwise. I really like the mini status screen you have in the center of the instrument cluster. The IS had something like that, but yours appears to be a somewhat better display. I know Infiniti are putting a similar display in the G, FX, EX, etc now.. but IT isn't nearly as cool as the one lexus does. I guess this is why there are so many car manufacturers out there.. so many ways to accomplish the same thing, but everyone has their own preference!
