Possible choice in wheels for my SC
« on: March 26, 2010, 05:40:48 PM »

For some time I have been thinking about buying a new set of "stunning" wheels for my SC430.  Now, that itch has gotten to the point that I am about to make the plunge.  However, I am not sure about what style would look the best on the SC because I want stunning not garish wheels.  In other words,  I want wheels to enhance the overall look of the car not to detract from it.

Suggestions will be appreciated.

What size are your stocks? 17 or 18"? What size are you shooting for?

I like a couple of OZ wheels for most cars but I'm not sure what they'd look like on the SC. OZ ultraleggera or Superleggera's are very nice and quite lightweight.  The Ultra's are quite reasonably priced as well especially for their weight..

Oz, they are 18" and I will stay with this size because of the comfort of the ride and also because my tires have only 4k wear.

IlovemyFX. thank you.  I will check them out.

I'm sure you already know this but if you go to Tirerack.com you can enter in your make and model, choose a wheel, and have a look at what they should look like.  They don't show a great picture but it gives you a rough idea for comparison purposes.

Thank you.  A number of sites do have this function.  It does make it more advantageous to see one's car with the various wheels on it.

After much looking and being confused by so many choices, I am considering having the OEM wheels presently on my SC chromed.  There are vendors who offer an exchange program whereby they exchange one's OEM wheels for exact chromed ones without a period of waiting.  It is a possibility.

I am taking my time making my decision.

Again, I thank you for your information.

post up some full size pics on this post and list any other mods you may do for the SC.  Full info helps in terms of big picture...

I for one am totally against chrome, but heck.... its your ride!

 Grin

just noticed your wheels now, I love that finish and color!!!  much better sc wheel vs. the original "pie" design wheel....

you also may want to consider pushing your OEM wheels offsets out w/ good spacers.  You would not believe the big visual difference when your wheels are flush with the car.

Another vote against chrome... esp factory wheels.  Its a bit "gangster" in my book.   But thats just typical for up here in NYC...

To those who reject chrome, is it because of the chrome material itself, or the luster of the finish or what?

Driving where I drive, I prefer alloy vs steel.  I also find a lustrous sheen pleasing rather then a dull finish.  The OEM alloy wheels on my SC to my eyes have an interesting and pleasing effect; almost two-tone with one tone a charcoal-like look mated with a shinny chrome-like look.

I may keep these OEM wheels if I cannot find the same pattern chromed and whether I like the chromed look on them.

I have spent quite a bit of time comparing chrome and alloy wheels.  The web sites that enable one to see a wheel on his model car are excellent sources.

The darnedest thing is that after looking at so many different wheels, the ones I have now appear to me to look as good as the best ones I found on the internet.   As a result, I am going to save my money for the time being and keep the Liquid Graphite Alloy wheels that are now mounted on my car.

Maybe, if in the future, if I see a wheel that "knocks me out" I will opt to change from what I have.

Thanks to all for your suggestions.  I appreciate them.

good choice!  I actually dig those stock wheel.

as for chrome, its all subjective. But, the weight is one factor - heavier.  Chrome is actually easier to clean, just wipe (as long as you wax it) so I dont mind chrome on the lip.

the other chrome factor is the "blingy" factor.  You see tons of knock offs, cheap ones as well that are all chromey.  Nothing wrong with that look, its just not for me.
