I SAID I was kidding!  I wish I could say I was kidding when I say I've encountered quite a few personal cars/trucks/vans that had those beepers on them... ugh.

But I tried to answer the backup camera question... and since you called me out... I'll go a step further.  I know nothing about the sonar equipment, so I'm not going there.

Just a quick search on ebay... I found this rearview camera which works via aux output (as I suggested in my earlier post) and mounts to your rear license plate bolts kinda like a license plate bracket.  This particular one even supports night vision.

So essentially you mount the camera on the license plate... run the wires to the aux input for your nav screen... and I assume it needs a power source of some sort... looks like it has wires that could probably be spliced into some wires in your trunk area... for example your REVERSE lights Smiley   Here's some pics of it... incase the thread dies when the bidding is over.  Its only 35 bucks btw... with $14 shipping.

Back in our motorcycling days, my brother hooked up a backup beeper from an old tractor to his Honda Gold Wing touring bike. Those bikes actually have a reverse gear, which comes in mighty handy when you've unwittingly parked an 850 lb. bike nose-in to a curb headed downhill!

He was real hit at bike runs when he'd engage reverse and go beep-beep-beep.  Grin

I'm very confused.  I had one of the very first SC430's and mine had a backup camera.  I also had a LS430 and that also had a backup camera.  I recall the SC430 having like two options available: the rear spoiler and the runflat tires.  Everything else, including a camera, was standard.  That's changed?!?!  Bad move by Lexus.
re: the parking sensors.  I'm kind of on the fence about them.  I like them, they work, but the beep beep beep is kinda annoying.  If they could come up with a less annoying sound and give distance it would be better.  ie. voice saying "4.2 4.1 2.2 etc"  Oh, and the BMW Parking radar thing seems to work better for me as it has this color landscape thing totally around the car as opposed to the bars but still kind of annoying.

I thoroughly researched the SC before I got it.  So, I did know what was standard, what options were available and what it did not have compared to my M45 and ES350.

I am not disappointed with the SC.  It is what I expected.  Nevertheless, I failed to anticipate that I had gotten accustomed to those other features.

There are many after market products available that are proximity beepers.  There are also a number of camera systems for the backing up.  However, what I have seen fall far below what I had in the ES and the M45.

Niether Lexus or Denso has given me any hope to have installed one of their products.  So, my question was wistful at most hoping that a SC owner had found for which I am looking.

I thank each of you for your comments and suggestions.  If I come across a quality system that I can use in the SC, I will post a notice of same.

I'm just saying I'm surprised that Lexus removed the back camera.  Why?  Worked just fine on my SC430.

Hey carbuff,

During a recent wild goose chase at Target I came across the following.. not sure if you have done anything yet, or have given up on your little project. This one is along the lines of what Mike posted, except you can buy it in Target, and it's cheaper! No idea how well, if at all, it works.. Smiley
