Trying to procure an '02 LS430
« on: August 24, 2009, 06:01:13 PM »

Due to an unfortunate series of events, the family is now -1 vehicle.... I actually found a semi-perfect replacement, but its a bit of a fiasco to get it. It's an '02 LS 430 loaded, with 64K miles, and < $19K. The car is in amazing condition with the exception that the front right fender has been poorly repainted (never removed so damage must have been insignificant), and the A/C system appears (smells) to have a mildew/mold issue.

The dealer (carmax) is in the process of resolving the A/C issue and a few other things (ride height control, front right speaker blown). Assuming they get it all sorted out, the car will be entering the family pool.

The exterior color is pretty 'blah', it's a silvery-beige-ish color. The interior is a very nice deep black with perforated seats. The car is in IMMACULATE condition interior wise... and also drives perfectly. Hopefully they'll be able to fix the A/C issue.

Oz, hope all is well man...

so no F anymore?  I am not one to jump on the "mold" issues, but sometimes they are real concerns - not sure how someone can completely neutralize the problem IF the mold is a problem.  The hotel here had to burn all the furniture and replace carpets, wall coverings, etc b/c of mold problems....some cases are legit, some are blown out of proportion..

hope yours is a easy fix... I would go for the 04+ls430 if possible.... Grin

Have you thought about an M/Q?

The M is almost impossible to find under $20K. It's very, very weird.. given the fact I took a bath in mine over a year ago ($17K, 75K miles, M45 sport loaded).. and can't find anything remotely comparable. I looked at the Q, and it's honestly not even close to the LS in features/quality, and only slightly lower priced. I like the styling of the LS a tad more.

I actually drove the Acura RL ('05?); color me disappointed....

Sorry for the confusion. IS-F isn't going anywhere (yet). This is a vehicle for a family member. I totally hear you with the mold issues. Myself and the other people potentially driving the car have SEVERE allergies and if the mold is not completely removed it will be an issue.

I'd love to go the 04+ route, but honestly, there's no reason to unless we can't get this issue resolved. It's impossible to find anything in the same price range with the features this car has, and the mileage. The 04+ go for $25K++, with almost identical mileage and a much lower trim level. If i had the money, i'd have honestly grabbed this car for myself ... Smiley

It is the regular car, plus every conceivable option that was available at the time; the only thing it doesnt have compared to modern technology is a backup camera and keyless entry/push button start.

It has the "ultra luxury" package, which was approx $18000 MSRP (that's not an extra 0!) and includes:

Quote
Heated Front and Rear Seats
Power Moonroof
Vehicle Navigation System
Mark Levinson Premium Audio
Dynamic Laser Cruise/Speed Control
Power Rear Sunshade
Parking Distance Control
Climate Controlled Front Seats
Headlight Washers
Power Door/Trunk Closers
Laminated Side Glass
Electronic Air Suspension
Rear Doors Sunshades
Rear Massage Seats
Rear Air Conditioning
Lexus Link
Power Rear Seats
Rear Heater

It's hilariously "VIP" to me, at least, especially for <$19K. The reclining heated/vibrating rear seats, 3rd zone A/C are awesome. It's got power EVERYTHING - folding mirrors, power headrests (front and rear); power seatbelt adjustments, door closers, trunk closer, full air suspension (so +/- 1" of ride height, and you can get an aftermarket controller apparently Smiley )

Either way.. hoping it works out, if not, i'll move on and find something else.

Hmmm yeah I would be very weary of the mold/mildew in the A/C system.

How about a used G sedan? Or is it too small cause its not full sized? You could find a newer one with less miles in a color you like.

I know it's not the same thing, but...do you remember that Mythbuster episode where they let some dead pigs inside a Corvette?  They tried everything, even professional, and one of the parts they couldn't get right was the A/C.  So I'm skeptical, and I'm allergic to mold, so I can detect that from a distance.

Good luck though!  Hope this is the one, it looks great otherwise.
