Where's the new M?
«

So.. nissan/infiniti have been as tight lipped as they usually are. Has anyone seen anything "semi-official" about when a redesigned M will be rolling out? I know there is a lot of speculation about it having the new hybrid configuration (hopefully OPTIONAL), but no dates. We're already in Q2 '09 and Infiniti haven't said much about the M, so is it assumed the '10 is going to be a carry over of the '09, and that we MIGHT see something in the 2011MY?

yeah... unfortunately, it appears there is NO info period on a new 2010 M... it would have been officially announced by now. At the least, it would be leaked. So i guess 2011 is a maybe. Definitely screwed with my plans.

Not necessarily. I really want to see what they are doing with the new M. Even once it's out, I don't think i'll buy brand-new...
I LOVE my -F, there's a little less space than I would like, and a few technology items that annoy me.. but beyond that, I couldn't ask for any more in a car from a "driveability" perspective. The transmission/engine/brakes are amazing, and those are HUGE points for me on a car. That's where the M completely screwed me over and eventually met its demise. I'm curious to see if Infiniti are going to offer a "real" sport package on the new M (bigger/better brakes, how the new 7AT performs, etc). I'd probably be in an FX50S at this point if I hadn't read so many reviews/blurbs about brake fade issues.. so I want to see what the new M will bring to the table.

i too am interested to see what the new M brings, but Oz... I'm guessing they don't bring any more "specialized performance" type packages than were offered before. So whatever performance the 5.0 brings will probably be it... sounds as if the idea of a Mtype package or GTR engine or anything of that nature is out of the picture. I just wish they would give some hint that it was coming period at this point.

Exactly. A hint would be appreciated.
I can't understand why they wouldn't follow the theme of the G, though, and actually offer bigger brakes, etc with the sport package.. doesnt make any sense if they really want to compete in the "sports" arena. If they don't want to do the necessary upgrades, they need to drop the "sport".

Infiniti look definitely confused right now...In a way that even Hyundai isn't.
I'd say start doing ridiculous smaller engines like those cheap 3 series, and sell them at Nissan prices; at the same time, put the GTR thing inside the M at a small profit (not at loss like with the GTR) and see what happens, at the same time, start competing club racing with the G37 and Touring car in Europe (you'll get lots of respect from the press, like Volvo, Alfa did before in the 80's).
