The Hulk, Monstrous, A Barrelling Behemoth. All worthy descriptions. It really is quite amazing that a vehicle that big can move that quickly. If only Infiniti would get on that bandwagon

Yep,
Forget acceleration... well for now
Did you see those braking/slalom numbers?
That's just insane for SUV
It's inline with M3
I'm more and more shocked from this car
It doesnt make any sence what it can do

Bigger question for me on this is. . . why? If I'm going to buy a sports car, I buy a sports car. If I want an SUV, I get an SUV. This thing is weird. It's neither a sports car nor a SUV. It's certainly not a sedan. I just don't get this thing. The wife thinks it's hideous but I personally like it. I would just never buy one. I'm going to be buying a GX460 for the wife in the next few weeks. That seems to make more sense for me. Comfy as all hell; 4 wheel drive; fits lots of stuff; third row; fits in garage. For tearing around I still have the Infiniti and for really tearing around I have the other things.

Might be an interesting piece re the GX460:

Consumer Reports Says Lexus GX 460 Is Unsafe
By CHRISTOPHER JENSEN
2010 Lexus GX 460.
7:07 p.m. | Updated
Toyota announced Tuesday evening that it would temporarily stop selling the Lexus GX 460 while it conducts its own testing of the sport utility vehicle. Earlier in the day, Consumer Reports magazine had said that the GX carried an unusually high risk of a rollover accident during certain types of turns and issued a rare “don’t buy” warning, citing a handling problem that could lead to a rollover and possibly “serious injury or death.”
A “don’t buy” warning is rare for the magazine, but there was no doubt it was necessary, said David Champion, the senior director of the Consumer Reports auto test division. The litmus test was whether the testers would want their families in the vehicle. The answer was no, he said, so “I wouldn’t want anybody else in it.”
The handling problem arises if the driver takes his foot off the gas pedal while driving quickly through a sharp turn. That causes the rear end of the vehicle to slide toward the outside of the turn, a condition known as “trailing-throttle” or “lift-throttle oversteer.” On dozens of other S.U.V.’s tested by the magazine, the vehicles’ electronic stability control system detected and quickly stopped the slide. But the stability control didn’t stop the GX 460 until it was almost sideways, Mr. Champion said.
“This is the first time we have seen it in an S.U.V. with E.S.C.” he said, referring to electronic stability control. Consumer Reports said it was “rare” for the magazine to “judge a vehicle’s performance not acceptable.” The last instance was with the 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Limited in 2001.
Lexus, Toyota’s luxury car division, said it was “puzzled” by the magazine’s results since it conducts its own tests, and safety is a top priority. But Lexus said “we will take a very serious look at this and appreciate Consumer Reports’ bringing it to our attention.”
The magazine’s action is another public-relations problem for Toyota, a company that probably figured public relations couldn’t get any worse.
In addition to complaints about unintended acceleration and Prius brakes, there have been questions over whether the automaker was prompt in reporting problems to federal safety investigators. Most recently the federal government said it was seeking a $16.4 million fine, accusing the automaker of not acting quickly enough. The automaker responded it is “considering a response.”
Mr. Champion said that the problem came to light at the magazine’s test track in East Haddam, Conn., while looking for “any nasty habits that might catch a driver out.” He explained, “We want a car to be benign.”
The particular test that concerned the magazine involves a turn that suddenly gets sharper. The driver enters at about 60 miles per hour and then, as if surprised, lifts off the gas. Ideally, the electronic stability control would stop a slide caused by that maneuver, allowing the vehicle to safely complete the turn.
Four of the magazine’s drivers tested the Lexus without being allowed to watch one another or to compare notes, Mr. Champion said. They met later and discovered each had a similar problem with the tail sliding too far. “It was like ‘whoa, what about that rear end!’ ” he said.
He added that technicians from Toyota later inspected the vehicle and found it met factory specifications. The magazine anonymously buys its test vehicles rather than borrowing them from automakers.
Mr. Champion said such a problem could happen in everyday driving. For example, a driver heading quickly through a turn — like a highway off-ramp — who finds the turn is sharper than expected would naturally lift off the gas, he said. The danger, he said, is that during such a slide tall vehicles like S.U.V.’s are easily tripped by curbs or soft ground, potentially causing a rollover.
The problem with the Lexus is that the electronic stability control doesn’t work well, Mr. Champion said. “The design is too slow to correct the slide before you are too far gone.”
In its statement Lexus complained that the magazine did not demonstrate the problem for its representatives. However, Mr. Champion said that when the officials visited the track it was raining hard, which would have made an apples-to-apples duplication impossible. But, he said, they showed the Lexus officials a video of their earlier tests.
Mr. Champion said electronic stability systems used on other Lexus and Toyota models have always worked quickly to stop slides, so the problem on the GX 460 was surprising. The new Toyota 4Runner, which uses the same basic architecture as the Lexus, was tested the same day and did not have the problem, he said.
“I think it is more a calibration issue of the electronic stability control,” Mr. Champion said.
Even before its “not acceptable” rating of the 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Limited, Consumer Reports had locked horns with automakers over the handling of S.U.V.’s.
In 1996, it said the 1995-96 Isuzu Trooper and the mechanically similar 1996 Acura SLX could roll over during quick turns at low speeds. Isuzu filed a lawsuit charging Consumers Union with product disparagement and defamation, but a jury in Federal District Court in Los Angeles decided that although Consumer Reports had made false statements about the Trooper, it had not defamed and disparaged Isuzu Motors.
A better-known case, involving the small Suzuki Samurai S.U.V. dragged on for eight years before Suzuki and Consumers Union agreed in 2004 to settle their legal dispute over the magazine’s assessment of the Samurai’s propensity to roll over. Neither the company nor Consumer Reports admitted fault and neither received monetary compensation, though the magazine agreed to release a “clarification” saying its description of the Samurai’s performance “was limited to the severe turns” in the magazine’s tests and “may have been misconstrued and misunderstood.” Consumers Union “never intended to state or imply that the Samurai easily rolls over in routine driving,” the statement said.
The article in dispute was published in an anniversary issue of Consumer Reports in 1996, a year after the Samurai was discontinued; the article was based on testing conducted in 1988.
The case eventually reached the United States Supreme Court, which in 2003 refused Consumers Union’s appeal of a lower court ruling requiring the organization to stand trial in the product disparagement suit brought by Suzuki.

Trin,
I need an SUV to fit my family needs
But i just like to throw this thing into corners sometimes or pass semi trucks on freeway with a blink of an eye
It is also comfortable as hell (with active seat package), lots of tech, and very driver oriented
I just hate driving anything boring
Sorry... Lexus is very much so
I want a roomy thill ride

For HER car I want something BOOORRRINNNNGGGG. And comfy. But Hey, I'll put it out there. If you can come up with something that's comfy and fits the criteria. I'll buy it. Has to be an SUV because she wouldn't be caught dead in a minivan. Has to have a 3rd row because she claims she needs it for carpooling kids (she doesn't but I'm not going to argue that one). It has to be 190 inches or shorter because I'd like to park in the garage too.
I personally like the Caddy SLX or whatever it's called but she absoloutely refuses to drive a Caddy. I also like the X5 but she's been there and done that and to be honest, the M6 has pretty much written off the brand for me forever. The Acura is freaking transformer ugly and I honestly didn't like the ride that much. She won't drive a range rover because she doesn't want to look showy. What am I left with? The Audi is too big. The Benz she doesn't like and the bigger benz is also too big. Volvo's just plain suck. I like the catfish Infiniti but she doesn't and it has no storage or third row.
I'm out of options folks. So, Lexus it is. Honestly, the three Lexus's I've had were all great cars. I didn't like the Hybrid RX that much but the LS and SC were fantastic cars. Just no soul. Oh and they fixed that issue that Consumer Reports got all crazy about.

I hear you Trin
You definetelly have very narrow search criteria when it comes to your wife's car
With mine it is also pretty hard to find many options
Here is what i need:
I live upstate and go to poconos PA often
1. I kind of need AWD, higher ground clearance prefered, hills and snows quite a bit (SUV)
2. I need to fit lots of stuff if we go to PA or to my parents in NYC (minivan/SUV)
3. No need for 3rd-row for a few years or ever (any SUV works)
4. I would like my ride somewhat to match my 335i/M3 in performance/dynamics
5. It has to look half decent atleast
6. Tech goodies is a must
With this in mind, i'm left with Porsche and BMW
I hate Cayenne and X6M i just love
BTW, Trin
Lots of people track their X6M and they do very well against other real sport cars
You may not call it sports car, but it definetelly is capable as one

FX50?
I personally like the looks of the X6 M or not, lightly modded or not, but it is in no way backseat passenger/kid friendly.
Room in the rear is nada. For younger kids, maybe not a problem, but only two seats - no bench in back. Rear seat is hard to get in and out... when this first came out, I thought about it for a family car, but the rear "seat" area was not worth anything for me.
looks pretty sweet from the outside.
FX50 would fit your needs... but for in the euro dept.

FX50 is a nice car, but does not drive like X6M (or X6 50i) even remotely
I drove one, plus i've had FX45
Balance is pretty bad, ride is bouncy, room in the backseat is horible and MUCH worse than in X6
Trunk space is a joke - my 335i has more space in the trunk than FX, rediculous
In snow, this car was allover the place as soon as i tap the right pedal
My 335i passed all of the latest winter storms with ease
I'm trying to understand, do people really think X6 has very limited space in the back or this is just some sort of magazine suggestion/assumption thing?
I'm not that tall, 6', but i had plenty of room left for legs and head when i sat in the back
Keep in mind, 2012 model now offers 5 seat option as well
P.S. Not a big fan of new FX design, looks a bit weird for my taste

I hear you on the FX design, not for everyone, still does not have me up front - design wise. Forgot about the AWD...
I am much smaller than you and did not like getting in and out of the rear, I did some testing before any reviews came out... I really went to look at the X6 with an open mind. Same with the CLS....I really, really like the look of the CLS, but getting in the rear seat of the CLS takes some effort, minor effort, but not just a "open door, move in and sit down". You need to duck your hear b/c of the roof line, same with the X6 - lean forward to get in and then can lean back. Plus only 2 seats - last time i checked - no bench. So if terms of seating back there you are limited to just 2. Middle seat was a counsel on the X6 I checked out.
For me it was not a media thing regarding the rear, the getting in and out was something I noticed right off the bat. I also felt, that from the outside it looks much roomier, but when you look and get in, it does not feel like the same space.
so for family/business car, not for my needs. But heck, if just for family and only 1 or 2 kids...should be fine. I am sure you would get rid of it by the time any kiddies hit 12...

LOL
I hope it will be long gone by the time my kids are 12
At this point X6 will be exactly 10 years old
For getting in and out it didnt feel any different from bunch of SUVs around me
FX, Audi Q5, etc
So being still young, 35 and having only one toddler kid (2y/o), I just dont see myself in anything other than X6M
I will admit though, there was one little thought in my mind possibly getting Jeep SRT8 couple of years ago, but that went away as soon as i saw that brutal interior
My friend, on the other hand, really thinking of getting one, MY2012
He's hauling two kids in his 335i sedan for now
