Tropical Storm "Fay"
« on: August 18, 2008, 04:23:42 PM »

To all CarFAQ.org members:

As most of you probably know, tropical storm "Fay" is currently headed for Florida and is expected to make land fall within 24 hours. The primary CarFAQ.org server is hosted in Boca Raton, FL, and the mail servers are hosted in Miami, FL. Both facilities are "hardened", carrier class data centers with some of the world's largest telecommunications providers in house. The facilities have multiple points of entry for power and data/network, full UPS grids, and multiple generators. The site is also backed up remotely to additional locations.

That being said, while the buildings are designed to withstand hurricane force winds, it's difficult to make them completely able to withstand potential tornadoes that are spawned. Of course we would like to hope that no tornadoes will spawn, but it's mother nature.

CarFAQ.org does NOT expect to see any downtime related to the storm, but please be assured - if the site is down due to a facility failure, it will be relocated within 24 hours.

Regards,

OZ...  That's dedication right there...

Hurricane coming your way, yet you have the time to tell us that Carfaq will be okay, and that if it does go down it'll be back in 24...

Awesome...

I had no idea... why didn't someone post a thread or something Wink

in the wide scope of things... I hope people recognize that some things are a lot more important than Carfaq... and if you live in Florida, I hope you're taking care of those things and not worrying about if this website goes down for a day or two.

Certainly. But you have to give kudos for Oz to be so concerned with this site's well being while knowing his 'Northern' house is in the path of the storm!  bow

More cheers to Oz.

Lash everything down and take cover. If the site is down we'll know why, and we'll understand.

He gets Kudos from me because as far as I know, the site never went down at all!  I hope his houses come out as lucky as we did!

Thanks guys. No damage so far. Just pieces of trees and lots of flooding. We'll see what the second (potential) round of the storm brings.

glad to hear it is on the way...hehehe... more glad that you are all good.  Keep warm and dry.

I will take care of your F.....

I had to go to another island today... noticed a M3 sedan in the parking structure and was able to get some good looks... not a bad looking car...wish the tails were more like the coupe but the M3 looked very nice... never really noticed the M3 sedan that much before.

Fay fay go away

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080820/ap_on_re_us/tropical_weather_fay

Quote
Forecasters originally expected Fay to energize over the ocean and possibly become a hurricane before landing in Florida for the third time later this week. The erratic storm first struck Monday in the Florida Keys, then veered out to sea before traversing east across the state, briefly strengthening, then stalling. For much of Wednesday, the storm barely moved, dumping inches and inches of rain over coastal central Florida.

If Fay crosses into the Atlantic and strikes Florida again, as expected, it would be just the fourth storm in recorded history to hit the peninsula with tropical storm intensity three separate times. The most recent was Hurricane Donna in 1960, said Daniel Brown, hurricane specialist at the National Hurricane Center.
