SRT (Swift Racing Technologies) High Flow Intake for IS-F
« on: September 14, 2008, 06:27:38 PM »

Update: Please see this post for information on how SRT treats their customers. I do NOT recommend this product and it has been REMOVED!

Modification:

SRT (Swift Racing Technologies) High Flow Intake with "RACE ECU"

Purpose:

Theoretical additional HP, Torque, and different sound.

Supplier:

http://www.swiftracing.com/

Cost:

$799 MSRP (Current as of 08-14-08)

DIY or Professional Install:

Could be DIY but done professionally

My Rating:

0/10

Difficulty Rating:

5/10 (Per installer - Intake was easy, the fact that you have to solder about 8 wires onto the factory ECU took 70% of the time). I believe installation time by SRT is claimed at 1-1.5 HRS, but realistically it's 2-3.

Instructions/Notes/Comments:

Intake itself is of acceptable quality, "RACE ECU" looks like it cost about $5 and has loose rattling pieces inside. (Spoke to SRT about this, they said the PCB is not "mounted" inside the box and does freely float around per design spec)

Notes and Deviations from instructions:

One of the pin-outs in the installation for the ECU is wrong. I don't have the instructions any more, but I believe it was the 2nd to last wire to be connected. Hopefully they are shipping proper instructions in the future.

Pictures and Additional Comments:

Comments:

Initial results - So far, no where near the claimed increases on their webpage (+20RWHP/+20TQ). In fact, HP is lost in the low end but only an additional 8HP is gained overall. 2ft/lbs of torque are reported missing permanently. The nice sound produced by the intake is almost justification for the loss, but not quite!

Installation and Dyno's were done by Performance Factory in Orlando, FL.

Swift Racing Provided Dyno:

My Dyno Results:

dyno 2.jpg

Needless to say, I'm going to follow up with SRT and see what they try and justify it with.

Update: I spoke with SRT today and sent them my Dyno results. They are working with me on the matter and i'll continue to update this thread with more information.

MPEG-4 Higher Quality

Highly recommend to open them in a new window and click "watch in high quality" for slightly better sound.

Sound only, a bit better than the videos (I think).. I pulled out the L&R channels only, dropped center and rear.

Thanks for listening Wink I know the dyno is kinda loud.. the camera I was using actually has 3 different microphones but I spent about 2 hrs blanking out my plate in the videos and didnt get the chance to tweak the sound Wink Note to self -cover plate in future!

Would've liked to have heard it more from the front end than the exhaust end to get a better feel for it.

Car gets pretty good power to the wheels in stock trim though.

Yeah.. I wanted to do front end too (instead) but their shop was _PACKED_ with stuff (cars!) and the way the dyno is setup, its hard to get to the front side of it with a car up on it (you have to walk outside the building)

Jeremy mentioned the same thing - he was surprised it actually got that much power to the wheels!

Yeah, that's a pretty good number for a NA V8 with a nice curve.

Added two MP3's (sound only) in the post above (at the bottom). It seems to have removed some of the hiss. The new intake is SO much louder than the stock setup....

Out of all honesty - can anyone but me hear the difference between the two intakes in the video? I think it's pretty discernable, but i know the dyno is noisy and I'm not in the best location.. the intake DEFINITELY sounds different in person (and i think in the video too).. but i am curious if anyone can REALLY hear it Smiley

You can hear it, but its not a night and day difference in the vid.  Sounds like any cone CAI though.

That's fair. Where you mainly notice it in person is that the 2nd intake is gone, so you dont only get the roar after 3600-3800 RPM now.. you pretty much get it whenever you step on the gas.
