Ford GT, Ariel Atom
« on: October 12, 2008, 10:34:36 PM »

Had never seen a GT in person before. Wasn't that impressed, honestly. The Atom, however, was badass. Wasn't expecting to see any cars at this show so all I had was my phone camera.

I love 'em both.  The GT just has that classic GT40 look, such a great design.  Not the best engineered car in the world though.  Lot of Ford trappings to it.  But I just love the body design and it goes like stink.

Atom would be in my garage, well, if I had a garage and 75k to spare. Smiley

I knew the Atom was expensive. Didn't realize it was THAT expensive. Thats a lot of money for not a lot of (physical) car. But again, it's pretty badass.. although I would be a little frightened to drive one on the road with other.. cars.

I don't think it's street legal in the US, not 100% sure.  Think you have to get it certified like a kit car.  I looked into them before.  They start in the low 60's, hit 70's and higher with options and engine choices.

But the performance is wicked.  I'd have to do it as a dedicated track car though, for the reasons you said.  Permagrin. Grin

The one in the pic above has a regular license plate - that would imply street legal, right? (I honestly don't know, just assuming Smiley )

I really like the red GT.  The atom doesn't do anything for me visually.  Looks too much like a dune buggy.

What kind of a show was that Oz?  Looks like it was held in an abandoned warehouse.

ILoveFX - oddly enough, it was a security/audio show - home audio mainly, and then they had a car audio section. The car audio section was held in one of their unused warehouses.. no idea why the GT's were there honestly, they didnt have any audio/video work done.

Where do you live?  I will steal it.  No lie.  This thread is like my favorite car list. Grin

Noble, like Ariel, is a British carmaker.  The cars are street legal in the UK, but they have to be sold as a rolling chassis + engine / transmission in the US then certified as a kit car.  It's not DOT compliant.  Light, gorgeous, uses a twin turbo Ford V6 engine and makes in the mid 400's for power, but they weight around 2500 lbs.  M400 is the first one I feel in love with, they're focusing on the M15 now, only car they're producing I think.  All hand built, track ready supercars.

Here we go, Noble M400.  3.0l Ford Duratec (from Mondeo ST200), blueprinted, rebuilt by hand and designed for twin turbos.  Just under 2400 lbs, rear mounted engine, RWD, Getrag 6 speed manual and a Quaife rear differential.  AP Racing brakes, Bilstein suspension, composite body...  450 hp @ 6500 rpm and 400 lb-ft of tq @ 5000 rpm.  The power to weight ratio is ridiculous and everything I've read says it's a wonderfully well tuned and balanced car.  They basically sum it up as Enzo performance at a Porsche price.

1G Racing was the US importer for Noble, they bought the rights to the M400 and are producing as the Rossion Q1.  In the US, still a kit car though, you need to supply the engine and transaxle.

This is a rendering of the optional LeMans stripe and wheels.

Wonderful numbers, I still prefer the Ariel.  Both are awesome though.  But I cannot help but think about the Caterham 7, I love this car since I was a kid.  It's like the Lancia Stratos, childhood dream writen all over it.  So to have one would mean that much more to me, personally.
