As has been noted on many other forums the new FX's biggest flaw is it's look. I saw both vehicles at the car show in Vancouver a few weeks ago. The X6 looks great but is surprisingly big compared to pictures. The FX looks great from the rear and rear quarter but as you come around to the front quarter and full front that catfish mouth becomes a turn off. As far as a performance comparison it's hard to compare a base 35 with the X6. I'm sure the 50 would have been a different story.

The X6 is ugly. Like someone said on the comments sections, it looks like an updated Pontiac Aztek (the ugliest car ever).
The FX35 won the overall comparison, even though being 17k cheaper. Boy, what I could buy with 17k grand of extra goodies...
I liked the first pictures that came off of the 2009 FX, but I didn't like any on the ones depicted on the mag. Guess that front does not work with light colors.
Make mine in black, it will hide the most controversial elements, I hope.

Have you seen X6 in person in decent color?
It looks better in person than on the photos
FX on the other hand looked worse in person than on the pictures
Anyways, looks are subjective
Personally i think X6 is gorgeous

No I haven't, so take my opinion as it is, less the .02 worth. That is, the X6 is like the Porsche Cayenne, a bloated, inflated version of the smaller sibling. It's like they inflated a 3 series coupe, lifted the suspension (i could fit two fits on top of each wheel, so large is the opening), and stuck another door somehow in the elongated body. The fact that it is heavy, 636 pounds heavier than the FX, and it drives (according to the article linked above) like it really is floaty, top heavy are big no-nos in my book.
I hated the Cayenne when I first saw it, but it kinda of grow on me a little bit later. Maybe this will happen with the X6. If you liked the Cayenne straighaway, then I can see why the big&tall 3 series look might be attractive.
Again, just my .02

First, it's not tall 3, but 6 series
Floaty?
I havent driven one yet, but MT guy has very weird opinions about bimmers
Same thing happend when they compared G37 to 335i
We all know 335i is far ahead on any cometition
X6 still managed to put better numbers despite the huuuuge weight difference
X5 xDrive50, however, has adaptive, more agile suspention and much better driving dynamics than 35
Also, inside, X6 was veeery roomy, compared to FX, trunk was bigger
Chip it, and you got yourself 400hp/tq car with better gas milage and as powerful as FX50

You mean when the 335i overheated to a halt @ 100F weather - while the G37, doing the same things, were still running strong? I think that happend on the Road & Track mag.
BMW rushed to introduce the oil cooler on the AT, which does not do much good to their engineering dept., does it? I mean, at least they corrected the issue, but I can only imagine a cheap lazy owner of a 3-5 year old car skipping oil changes once in a while, what will that do to that stressed engine?

They attributed that to the stickier tyres and 20" wheels, agains the 18"wheels on the FX tested.

Agree, but it also pushes the price/performance ratio skyhigh

Agreed, turbo engines are easier to mod, are more efficient, but also more fragile (see the overheating issue above), and need much more attention. If you're the first owner, you're good to go, I believe.
But would you buy a used one, non certified? I know I wouldn't, and that might drive resale value down, as it did with the Audis.

I'm ok if the car dies after 50K miles, i wont have it by then
I also like the idea of not paying one dollar for anything except gas while i own it
But if i do want keep it for longer, i'd get extended warranty (100K mil) for $1K+
So, no one know yet whether these new turbo engines are more fragile or not
A lot of companies switching to turbo setup
Keep in mind that 335s engine is stronger than 330s and running only 8psi boost which is relatevly low
Also having turbo engine with a lot of torque on X6 makes it more drivable
P.S. I'm not even going to go into oil cooler debate and how the car with no cooler was provided by Infiniti, etc
For most people it's ok to have a car without oil cooler since they dont track their cars, but i guess they'll have it regardless

I think the styling of these cars is going to be the sales factor. Its kinda like if they turbocharged the Aztec and it ran 0-60 in 4.5 secs, and it had all the amenities of a BMW/Infiniti and they sold it for 25 grand. I'm STILL not going to buy it cause its extremely ugly. That, I believe, is going to be the major sales obstacle for both of the vehicles. I think they're both pretty good looking, but my wife thinks they're both hideous. She has seen neither in person though.

FX always had hate-it-or-love-it design
X6 is in the same situation now
I still love my FX, but after seeing X6 on the show and sitting in one, i'm going to have a hard time choosing between the two
X6 looks great, but sticker really sucks and i want V8
I need to drive FX50 ASAP

I saw the X6 at the dealer yesterday and did part of my negotiating while sitting in the driver seat. I think you guys better go see one of these in person before you judge the looks. It's pretty darn nice. One bad thing? The exhaust has a very strange sound. You know how the G or the FX has that rumble sound? OK, now put it up about oh 4 octaves and that's the sound that comes from the X6. Kind of race car like but . . . I don't know. I didn't like it but I'm curious to see what you guys think.

I saw one on the road a few days ago. I thought it was pretty atrocious.
It's getting pretty bad (comparison) reviews across the board from what I've seen.. being considered an "oops" against BMW...
To each their own. The styling is unique, but a little too unique, I think. The FX is weird looking too, but in a different way.
