458. . . . Gone
« on: October 07, 2010, 02:45:38 PM »

Well, it was fun while it lasted but the 458 is gone.  It was resold.  I'll miss it.  It was hands down the best car I've ever owned.  In fact. . . I miss it so much. . . I got another one!  (heh heh heh)  This one is essentially the same car but has Carbon Fiber engine compartment and painted diffuser and front bumper.  It should arrive off the boat on Tuesday.  After that, the next one is due in December.  The dealer tells me that he's probably going to need the new one back by early November so I won't have it for very long (well, longer then my current 458 but not exactly months and months).  Dealer is pretty psyched.  He gets to sell the same car twice and make uber bucks on it.  Then he sells a new one which he will get to sell twice.  Then he gets to sell a third to me in December which I'm sure he's going to want back but not till like May of 2010.  Maybe June depending on how long I keep the third one.  Anyways, pix to follow.
P.S. I gotta be the only clown in the country that's already on his second 458.  lol

damn man.... was waiting for more reviews... well guess we get to see some CF goodies.  painted diffuser...so diffuser is CF and paint matched to car? or diffuser was different color than car and color matched.... or you just wanted to have pink colored diffusers.... Grin

Awesome news!  Hopefully it will be in when I make it out there this winter.  I should have some teaser pics up this weekend from a private track event last weekend.  That Italia is like a perfectly ballanced ballerina on wheels!  It is definitely the car to have when things get twisty.  Where as the big brother GTO was more of a sledge hammer tourer that knows how to swing.  I can't wait for the "Scuderia" version...

Did you have the same feeling as I did about the back of the Italia?  There is something that is incredibly sexy/alluring about the way the rear wheel arches are created in the back of the car.  Its like nothing else I have ever seen before.  It might be more pronounced on the red car but I kept finding myself staring...

I hope the carbon on the Italia is like the carbon on the GTO.  They finally figured out that people don't like the super shiny polished CF and switched to a matte/slightly sanded look and its a lot cooler IMHO.

I also really like the triple exhaust a-la-F40 (one of my favorite cars of all time)

You know it's strange, when I first saw it in concept and promo pix I was like, eh, I don't know about that.  It was cool but not jaw dropping I GOTTA HAVE ONE cool.  Then it grew on me, then I saw one in real life and now I think it's the best looking car on the roads today.  Then I drove one and now I think it's also the best car on the roads today.  Hard to believe but I think the profile is the weakest (if you can call it that) side to look at the car.  The front is just plain old wicked and the rear is perhaps the best looking back of a car Ferrari has ever made.  At first the triple exhaust didn't do it for me but now I like it.  Part of me just thinks it's so great because it's totally functional.

The owner of this pair had the same thing to say about it.  He owns some serious machinery and his favorite used to be the Scuderia but now its the Itaila.  Here is a pic of one of the plaques in the GTO, it shows off the matte(ish) CF that I'm in love with.  A bit less flashy, but damn sexy...  I forgot to check and see if it was the same on the Italia but I'm assuming it is, the rear diffuser appears to be the same.  So this new one your ordering is black and has a CF package??  Does this mean you will have two black/cf beasts lurking around?  Sounds like the receipt for some killer photos... Wink

I also think your on to something with the whole functional sexy thing.  There is something about the fact that EVERY inch of that car was massaged for a single purpose.  Driving pleasure!  I can't wait to see what top gear has to say about it.

Do a youtube search for "458 top gear" and you will see what they say.  Good impression but as usual Jeremy gets one thing totally wrong.  He seems to think you can't see the speed while the map is up, yet the ENTIRE time the speed is also displayed on the left screen.  In fact, at one point you can clearly see the speed of like 120 in the left screen.
