F430 leaving?
« on: March 10, 2009, 11:23:24 PM »

Well, the F430 has been at the dealer for the last week.  I put it up for sale when things were going real bad but then they got better.  Then I had one last thing to take care of: the F430.  Soooo, I did one more trade and made enough to pay for the whole thing.  So, now nothing to worry about right?  Well, suddenly a buyer appeared at a decent price.  Oh hell, now what.  So now I'm thinking. . . sell it.  The replacement will come in about a year to a year and a half and the numbers are going to go way down on this car.  I recall the 355 and the 360 going down pretty badly.  (I want talk about the 348)  I still can't believe the prices on these 430's going down the toilet.  You realize these things were 100k over MSRP and the 4 year old ones were going over brand new msrp just 10 months ago?!?! (WTF!)  Now 168k for a spyder is a good price when it went for 240k 10 months ago.  That's insane.  Dealer tells me that the brand new 430 is going at MSRP and you can even get the greatest semi mass made car in the world right now (the 599) AT MSRP.  That's freaking sick and in my years of collecting cars, I've never seen that at Ferrari.  Hell even their mistakes went over MSRP (Mondial, 412, old 612).  Anyways, so I'm thinking if it goes for 165 now and I can get it then I should and just bank the 190k I made to buy it and get the new one when it comes out in a year.  Heck, I may try to do another trade and make another 100k and buy a 599 (although I'm not the hugest fan of the looks).  My other option was to get another R8 but I was hoping to get one for a daily driver after I give back this M6.  I thought I'd turn to you guys to hear your thoughts.  Any?

By the way, it's kind of semi sweet for me.  I feel happy that the thing is sold and at a good price but I feel sad because this thing was feeling really "mine" at this point after the trade.

As much as I'm not a Vette fan, I'd be inclined to suggest the ZR1.  Really for no other reason that there won't be another car like it (from the domestics) for some time.   I think it'd hold its value relatively well for what it is.

Noooooooooooo!  Cmon now you remember that z-06 I had.  God that car sucked.  Only reason I'd get it is the unbelievable engine and the 0% (ROFL) 60 month financing they are actually giving on Corvettes (sky must be falling) these days.

I never know you had a Z06.  I recommend it for the engine and the way it handles and performs in spite of the Corvette body holding it. Smiley

What about the Noble?  (M12/M15?)  It killed the F430 and the R8 driven by Stig on Top Gear.

M15 is not in production yet, is it? My neighbors tune shop trashed his M12 before he even got to drive it!

The main caveat to the Nobles are the need to be done as kit cars, so the additional work of bringing it in, getting it built and licensed.

Though, at this point, you'd go with Rossion who licensed the M12 from Noble for the US and handles them here now.

Well, I like the British cars.  My next bet would be the Caterham 7 or the Atom.  If you don't like the Porsche GT-3, that would be the way to go, IMHO.

And of course, the McLaren F1 is the best car sports car ever built.

Not building a kit car.  I don't drive Porsche (it's a long story).  Anyways, it looks like I'll end up sitting on the $ for a bit till the new car comes out.  Heck, the dealer hasn't called me back so for all I know the sale blows up.

Since you'll be sitting on it, can I borrow $20 that hasn't touched your ass? Grin

You should grab a GT-R for shites and giggles.

I vote you hit the 'donation' button at the top of the page... Wink

(..someone i know..) has an F360 sitting in their secondary garage because they "don't like it"..

I actually spent part of the day at the Bentley/RR/Porsche/BMW/Audi/Mini dealership today (yes, it's one dealership.. ). They had an F599(?) they just got on trade... the person I was with was all over it, but it didn't interest me in the least. Not sure why.. ferrari's just don't really do it for me.

I think you should go for a GT-R as well. The prices have come back to reality, and if you have (and want) to burn some cash I think it's a nice "in between" car.. Smiley

Update: Yup. an F599...

Yeah its absurd that the 599 is going for retail (300 I think).  Literally only one in the whole city.  The car itself is "in F'in credible".  Took it for a mile or two 10 months ago and couldn't believe how fast this thing was while still being refined.  Heck even the note out of the back was better than my 430.  I'm not a huge fan of the looks is the only thing.  Not a huge fan of the looks on the GT-R either.  Anyways, it would just be an enthusiast thing I'd have for a year so I'm not in a hurry at all.  If it happens it happens.

I think you have the right idea in that now is not the best time to own an exotic car.  I'd be quite happy with the M6 'vert with it getting warmer and all.
