Just the Facts:
Porsche unveils the 2011 911 GT2 RS.
The 620-horsepower 911 will officially debut in August at the Moscow auto show.
GT2 RS arrives in the U.S. in October, priced at $245,000.

STUTTGART, Germany — Porsche has unwrapped its latest missile, the 2011 911 GT2 RS, which the company media-meisters describe, with only slight hyperbole, as the "fastest and most powerful road-going sports car ever built in the history of Porsche."

The GT2 RS arrives in the U.S. in October, priced at $245,000, after its world debut in late August at the Moscow auto show. Production will be limited to 500 units.

Output on the car's twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-6 engine has jumped to 620 horsepower, with power delivered to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.

Thanks to an aggressive diet, weight has been trimmed to 3,020 pounds, providing an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 1 hp/4.9 pounds. The GT2 RS rockets from rest to 60 in a mere 3.4 seconds and laps the Nürburgring's Nordschleife in 7:18. Velocity maxes out at 205 mph.

Equally impressive is a 5 percent reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

The GT2 RS gets some additional hardware improvements, including wider light-alloy wheels and new tires (245/35ZR19 in front and 325/30ZR19 in the rear), composite ceramic brakes, adaptive suspension management, specific stabilizer bars and engine mounts, plus a recalibrated stability management system that enables the driver to individually switch off stability- and traction-control functions.

The looks have changed subtly, thanks to the application of matte-black carbon-fiber components, as well as flared front wheel arches and redesigned front and rear spoilers.

The cockpit is black with red accents, and features lightweight two-piece carbon-fiber bucket seats. The gearshift and handbrake lever are trimmed in red Alcantara.

If I had the $$, I would take one of these over three GT-Rs! Though I remember it to be 3.2s in launch mode, no?

One more thing to note, it has MT
Auto and SMGs/DSGs are nice and all, but it's great that they offer MT on this car

Don't look at me.  I don't drive or pay attention to that particular brand.  I don't know the first thing about them.

What do you have against porsches?  Just curious...?  Apart from the fact that that the hi-hp rwd ones want to kill you.  But apparently so does the C63 AMG, which has the engine in the front.

You could say the same for the Z-1 or Viper or Z6 or . . . (thinking here) those modified mustangs or a zonda.  I don't want to insult any porsche fans so I'll just say I'm not a fan of the brand.  I did buy one for my dad though.  Thought it would be funny to see him driving one.  Got him a Cayenne a few years ago.  He likes it.

So its people that drive Porsches that bother you?  or the fact that they haven't really changed their initial design since the bug?

Both.  Alright I'll just say it.  The problem I have with Porsche is I find them uncomfortable and lacking a soul.  I also find that the people that drive them do so because it's because they want to look like they have a fast car and show that they have "made it".  This does NOT mean they have any idea how to drive one.  In fact, I'll say that 90% of owners have no idea how to drive a fast car.  You see 40 something year old women driving these things like idiots all the time in this city.  Or you get the worse scenario of the 40 year old that drives like a fast idiot but can't handle it because he doesn't know wtf he is doing.  Reminds me of my buddy that stomped the pedal in 6th gear on the highway in my R8 and declared, wow it has a lot of giddy up huh?  Trin: "uh, yeah" Trin thinking (How the fudge would you know, try downshifting!)  and of course, he wants a porsche.  Why do you think Porsche 911 has the HIGHEST insurance cost of any car?  Mostly because you get poseurs that have no idea what they are doing behind the wheel of a car that they can't handle.  Oh and the other thing of course is, would it kill you to make a new design?!?!  I know, if it aint broke don't fix it.  But cars evolve.  Shapes evolve.  Make something different for goodness sake.  That being said, I fully realize it's a fantastic machine and the high end ones when driven properly make amazing track cars.  I routinely get beat on the track by pros in 911's.  Then again I routinely laugh at the guy in a tie driving his 911 and having no idea how to heel toe or even what it is or the guy that has pdk but keeps the rpms at less than 3k 99% of the time.  (sorry, I'll stop ranting)

It sounds like your qualms are with Californians, not Porsche.  Unless you have a problem with how easy they are to drive every day, but that's why they make the fun versions.  Your right in that money doesn't buy brains, class or talent.  I'm sure its the sheer number of them where you are to leave such a bad taste in your mouth but how is that a fault of the vehicle?  That's pretty much the biggest compliment you can get coming from an engineer's point of view.  Not to mention that all the data collected in the street versions trickles down into the better ones.  Just like racing, day to day driving can find new weak points in a design.

I feel your pain about the status symbol thing.  I can't stand anyone with a nice car in NYC.  It just doesn't make any sense and all it does is ruin a perfectly good vehicle.  The roads are HORRIBLE, you can't park it anywhere (hence the bumper diaper discussion), the chances of getting into an accident are pretty much certain and your in a CITY, you can't really drive the thing anyway!?
